Version 5.5 released for registered users!

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 5.5 for registered users and Object Desktop users.  The new version supports skinning of Windows Vista.  A new version of SkinStudio is in development to support skinning of some of the new GUI elements of Windows Vista as well.

Screenshots of WindowBlinds 5.5 on Windows Vista:

WB 5.5 does not work well with Vista. After loading WB 5.5 I noticed my pc running slower than normal. Also figured out why I couldn't activate my purchased copy of Intervideo WinDVD 8 Platinum is because WB was interfering with the on-line activation. I also could not use WMP v11, it would not show my library! I took ALL my Stardock products off my Vista Ultimate until I know all is fixed. Stardock has a lot of work to do...I think about 6 months ought to do it!

We use Stardock software. They have to listen to use if we had any problem using their software.

mark, I'm glad that your problems are not reflective of the general user.    There are always bugs in software and with a new OS we can expect more.  I think, though, that for the majority of people using SD products and Vista the experiance has been good.

I'd suggest that you reinstall each app (one at at time) that you were having trouble with and then create a new post for each individual problem (along with yoru system info) so the WC community can help resolve them.  And then, if we can't, you can create a case with support so your problems can be addressed.  Uninstalling and not reporting specific issues maens that they might not ever get addressed (because you might be the only person having them).  Shoot, the problem may be with a skin and not the app at all.

You make it sound like we have to force Stardock to fix their software.  I have never known a software company that paid more attention to thier clients.  Any problems will be resolved.

***Mark Snyder do you use Object Dock? If so this may be causing the issues you briefly describe. THERE ARE solutions !~!

HERE is the link...The title is PowerDVD but reading through you will find that there are clear solutions that a fellow member took the time to test. I truly hope this helps and that you will patiently post any issues you have so that we can help in any way to make your experience a pleasant one

If that post does not help specifically it may point though to what the issue is, once the issue is known then a fix can be found.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and not bashing me about these problems. I hope Stardock can overcome these issues as I am a great supporter especially under WinXP. I did have ObjectDock Plus loaded but after uninstalling everything all is back to normal, heck I was even considering going back to XP at one point. I think Microsoft could have done a better job supplying vendors with better info for development.

Well....we tried it out. Uninstalled. Not that WB 5.5 doesn't work as advertised, it does...but all the great themes that the artists have worked on over the years, are just obliterated in 5.5 due to Vista's start menu. Buttons are off...fonts are shifted, and some of the systray areas are nothing but "invisible pink".

Stardock Central will not uninstall the beta of IconPackager..just locks up. Guess we're stuck with that.

Oh....and it's really nice to know that there's no separate uninstall exe's for either WB or IP in their perspective folders. If SDC can't uninstall the programs.....what will?

You could try zapper - https://www.stardock.com/files/odnt_zapper.exe Not sure how it will work in Vista.

Stardock Central is the uninstaller exe. It just happens to be the uninstaller for other things as well. If it doesn't work, you have just the same options as if the uninstaller for another program didn't work - you can delete the folder, or try to reinstall another version over the top. You could also try running the ODNT Zapper - it will probably need to be run in administrative mode. I cannot guarantee that any of these will work entirely in all situations . . . but then that's why we want to know when our uninstallers don't work!

With respect to the Vista Start menu - WindowBlinds is trying to do the best with the images that it has to hand. Some skins - particularly those that have logos or graphics in areas that are "normally" blank - will not work well. They were simply not designed for Windows Vista. Personally, I'm surprised they work at all.

The pink issues are most likely due to the skin authors using an incorrect method of applying transparency. I have seen this myself. You should contact them directly and ask them to check that their skin's has correct transparency specifiers for these particular images.

You can manually delete all the files and use Ashampoo Uninstaller Platinium (probably mistyped) to uninstall all the files and register keys in the register.

For the interested ones.. its cost 30 dollars

So thats NOT a good option

And ODNT Zapper have some small bugs with my Vista
The screens are a bit fuzzy but it works

I know what you mean by no uninstaller. I had to manually delete some folders and some would not because of permissions even though I forced change of ownership and full control of permissions.

If you do have problems with a particular skin, it would help us if you could mention what skin it is.

If you see magic pink anywhere on Vista then the skin author has made an error and they will need to correct their skin.

Mark Snyder: Did you discover if WB was causing the problems, or ObjectDock?

It was definately WB because I left everything else loaded except WB. As soon as WB was uninstalled which was a feat in itself, everything started to work better. I am running a system with Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Chip with 1 Gig of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS PCIe video card.

I believe by registered users it means people who have paid for it either by an ObjectDesktop subscription or the Windowblinds standalone. Not people who have just registered to the site.

Exactlly. You make an account and you have to pay for a program. If there is an upgrade of that program you can download it. Do you want another program to use, you have to register to that program (buy it and get a serial key)

Just wanted to report that my animations are working again. I can't think of any changes I made recently to effect this but as of this past weekend they are working again.
