First Great Skin

can you remember?

Can you remember the first skin that really blew you away and got you hooked on customization?

Mine was Thredz by Dangeruss and Thredz. That skin made it impossible to have vanilla Win ever again. When I look at it now, I am amazed at what a fine piece of work it was and still is!

How about you?

I'd used a lot of styles and blinds, but it was Hellfire Link
by Hippy Link that totally turned me on and got me interested. Although I've never actually made a Windowblind, Hellfire was just so cool I had to look closer.

I've only been in the WC community a short while, so bare with me...

I was looking for something to go with litestep, and I stumbled on Avenger. This brought me to the sysmetrix skin and finally WB. Once I found WB, litestep has been on the back burner. No one really comes up with eye-popping coolness with Litestep, save for Obsidian here of late. And Litestep won't skin all the aspects of Windows.

I would have to say Avenger did it for me. Still is quite cool to use. Thanks Mike https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=3337&LibID=1

Cool, I remember my first time here at this site. like a kid in a toy store. Since the first visit It has become an addiction and all cool ways of customizing windows. The first skin that caught my eye I've downloaded just a few minutes ago due to this new laptop I have. Seti green by DavidK. It would be really cool to see some of these great skins get an update.

Far too many to mention all of them....once I'd discovered WC, I was like a kid in a candy store with a $1000 note.

CopperDeck, I think, was the first that stayed on my desktop for quite a while....after playing with Desktop Architect, those shiny orange buttons and textures really grabbed me. However, with so many talented artists here, it was and is impossible to ever remain with just one skin/theme. I return to many of them regularly, but the one that gets put up more frequently is DMN-Tweak by Jay....I love dark skins and that one is right up there for me.

Back in '02 when Iwas heavily into win98 desktop themes there was an author that put one out that was mixed with a WindowBlind..from that moment on I knew that I had to find out more about WBs and how I could have them!..LoL
The theme was Ghostbusters..

I think Darkstar did it for me... but thats what got me wanting to skin more so than just interested in general. I loved the theme but had to have it in black/green not black/red and force coloring it just didn't look as good as tweaking all the images to get it just right.

I know, I know, its a TSF skin and I might get some flack for that but I've also only been around for less than a year and some of these older skins and stuff were not the first I came across. Ultimately what got me into skinning (even in general) was creating my own desktops (and so on) from my own images. The whole concept was just too sweet to not get into.

Something Different by Mgiff. It was the first thing I saw when I first logged to WC. I was looking for a wallpaper and found out what a windowblind was!

Farcusmarkus's OS-W icons first got me hooked. I adored the little kitty hanging out of the full recycle bin. http://farkus.wincustomize.com/

Then it was mormegil and his Corel tutorials that convinced me that MAYBE I could create some of these little babies of my own!! I have to credit Paul Boyer for his willingness to let the general public in on his world, and thus allowing the so called artist-wanna-be an outlet to express oneself.

Lets see...the first blind I had was I think was called " Mrs Gold "

For 6 months I refused to change to another blind cos this one came with 10 different color substyles and had a tranparency button.

I finnaly was forced by a friend that felt my obsession with mrs gold was not healthy...

I believe I settled on one of Brewmans blinds after that...

I've been addicted for quite a while, and I think it was Colony that snagged me, but Micron gold that I used for the longest time.

Mean machine...what a great skin! K tek, and NeOS as well. Strange feelings reloading these. So much has gone by, like a great bitter sweet trip down memory lane.
