Microsoft: Aero Glass to be final UI
No last minute major changes to Windows Vista interface

Back in 2001 Microsoft's early betas of Windows XP contained a user interface dubbed "Watercolor". But only months before the operating system shipped Microsoft completely replaced it with an entirely different look and feel called "Luna" which became known as "Windows XP Style".
That move has created speculation that current Windows Vista look and feel, called Aero glass, would be replaced by a different look and feel later in the beta process.
However, this week's PowerUser.TV podcast has an interview with Microsoft developers who have confirmed that there will be no major change to the look and feel of Windows Vista from what is being shown in build 5270. In other words, Aero-Glass is it.

I like it, and the Opacity setting would be nice for some poeple
Though I don't get the people that want classic, it's ugly, the start menu is worse, etc

Aero glass is not bad. It's a little distracting with the transparent idea but that can always be adjusted.
What would be is if when dragging a window really fast and you let go, the window would fly into the edge of the screen and shatter. Get it? Because it's glass!!! Yes, I'm an idiot. That would be a fun alternative when closing a window.

That would be an incredibly great effect for closing windows. I wonder if WindowFX 2.5 would be able to do something like that...Probably not.

I wonder if there are going to be variations on it. XP has the blue, green and silver, so I wonder about what else there will be. I never was a big fan of that translucent white look. Maybe if it was all the color of the taskbar. Either way, I'm sure I'll end up using WB on it, if I get Vista at all.

yes, you'll be able to change colors etc, but I expect Stardock will give you more control of it, etc. I have to say that that screenshot doesn't do a good job of showing off the interface, since the colors are balanced with the background, each other, etc.

Hmm. I wonder if Windowblinds will have to be totally redone to work with Avalon and whatever else Vista has going on.

Man, I'll stick with Luna thank you! Aero is far too dark - I hope there are ways of changing the colour, opacity, and size of the taskbars and titlebars. Awful, truly awful.

Agreed. You could add, that MS being a multi-billion dollar company, and this is the best their designers could come up with in regards to a UI. With all the talent on the net, this like Luna, could have been a whole lot more. But, if you take notice around other places besides you and your buddies house, the majority of Windows users never get away from the default UI. Only one of my customers has ever dared changing their system look. Most either don't care, or don't want to deal with more software.
Yes Acid, as far as I've heard, you can change the settings of the UI.

My buddies still stick with Luna Blue...they are always amazed that I have something different! Mum uses olive because she doesn't know that you can have different - I think I might just stick a different msstyle on for her - she'd like that and she'd get the hang of how to change it too since it's all within the standard properties dialogue. And Dad, well, he uses classic! Do you know what settings you can change for the UI?
