WindowBlinds 5: RELEASE DATE = Tuesday November 29

It's jsut about here!

Tuesday, November 22, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

WindowBlinds 5 arrives next Tuesday, November 29th!  Here are the key details:

  • Will support Windows XP (both 32bit and 64bit)
  • Windows 2000, ME, 98 users will have to stay with WindowBlinds 4.6 because the new performance features are only available on XP and those performance features make possible the new per-pixel glass effects.
  • It will be available on its own for $19.95 or as part of Object Desktop for $49.95.
  • Users who purchased WindowBlinds 4 after September get WindowBlinds 5 for free.
  • Other WindowBlinds 4 users will be able to upgrade for $15.  WindowBlinds 4 came out in 2003, so the typical WindowBlinds customer has received over a year and a half of free updates (that's why they have an upgrade path and users who just got WindowBlinds automatically get WindowBlinds 5).
  • A shareware version of WindowBlinds 5 will be available on Tuesday.

Will there be a pre-purchase option for the stand-alone version to get access to a beta install? (I know you can get it with OD, but I was just interested in the stand-alone version for now.)

What? You mean per pixel frames hasn't allways been around? Certainly feels like it had and that's just from using it since the first public beta arrived.

Had to install a new hard drive and WinXP. What a bland, uninteresting and boring desktop I saw. A quick reinstall of WB5, load a skin and voila! -the magic was back. What a great reminder of how much pleasure and enjoyment the WB desktop brings. Sincere congratulations to the prgrammers and the skinners who make such fabulous creations available to the far less talented -such as myself.

I have a concern...what will happen after I buy this upgrade, and ObjectBar 2 comes out later? or ObjectDock?(my favorite!), or any other OD product...my latest subscription doesn't expire until April 2006. I have already paid for ObjectDock Plus, but if my understanding is correct, I will not be able to receive ObjectBar 2
without paying to upgrade it, and so on and so on..not sure if this makes sense or not, but it's been bugging me for awhile...anyone know?

Been there, done that too, Rahn. I can't live without my WB now. I change skins sometimes four times a day, just cuz I can. I have hopes than when I finally get to upgrade to x64 that WB and all the other Stardock products are ready for it too. And when Vista is released, I will soon be in line for my copy...with the hope that I can still use my fav skins.

I'm sure access to the betas is intended as motivation to subscribe to Object Desktop. As a one time subscriber, although it's great fun, I just find I don't use anything but WindowBlinds with any regularity at all. So, yes, I too would be thrilled to be able to buy/upgrade now, and get the beta.
