WindowBlinds Data Source

Monday, October 24, 2005 by jeff graper | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I deleted a skin and the next time I tried to open windowblinds (5) I got a diaglog box asking for a file data source with a DNS name. I tried restoring to previous build, restoring XP to last weeks settings and various other options. I can access all visual styles from theme manager. but not from display settings or WindowBlinds. Thanks for any assistance JLG

Try this:

  • Uninstall Windowblinds
  • Navigate to your C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Windowblinds directory
  • Delete all files within it (you can leave your skins/subdirs)
  • Restart your computer
  • Reinstall Windowblinds

It's a known issue that not all skins accessible from the Theme Manager are accessible from the Windowblinds Configuration.  Please let me know if you're still having problems with the "Data Source" window.

jeff: was that a DNS or DSN name it wanted?

I'm still having the DSN problem... did everything you described (even went ahead and deleted everything), restarted, reinstalled and still am getting the Data Source window when installing v5. If I uninstall and rollback to 4, no problems.

When you installed your copy of WindowsXP (or since you've installed it), did you do anything to modify it?  This problem has come up in the past with people that have either had a corrupted file (which the fix I've recommended already resolves) or have customized their Windows install. By removing certain components, your system will run faster, but it may lose functionality for any programs that require those certain components.

No, the install is not customized... other than windowblinds itself.

Please try running <this file> and see if it resolves your issue.
