WinCustomize Subscription Drive Begins

We need your help

Friday, September 30, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

WinCustomize.com is having a subscription drive. From September 30 to October 31 we are hoping to gain 2,000 new or renewed WinCustomize subscriptions.

Stardock has hired long-time skinner Mike Bryant who is going to work on creating at least one (probably two) premium suites that will be just for WinCustomize subscribers.  In addition, WishX has been brought on board to help better coordinate efforts between the site development team and the volunteer moderators and administrators so that new features, changes, and bug fixes can be done even faster.

On top of that, monthly visitors have increased from an average of 14 million at the start of the year to over 22 million now.  Those extra millions of users mean more bandwidth and more servers which is very expensive when you're at that level.

IF we make the 2,000 subscription goal we will also commit to adding some specific new features such as:

  1. Subscribers will be able to select their own "skin" for the site.
  2. An extra premium suite for subscribers
  3. Lots of additional new features for personal pages
  4. RSS feeds for select galleries

Presently, a WinCustomize subscription provides:

  • No Ads on site
  • Two Premium skin suites
  • The WinCustomize Browser
  • Unlimited Downloads
  • A WinCustomize Personal page with your name as part of the domain
  • A Personal photo gallery to upload images to.
  • And various minor features with more being added regularly.

A WinCustomize subscription costs $19.95 for an entire year.  Renewals cost $19.95 for an additional two-years.  We will be keeping you up to date on the status of the subscription drive.  In order to make 2,000 subscription we have to sell over 60 subscriptions per day.

I have been a member for a few years now but never a paying subscriber...im one of those mooching types that if i have choice between free or not free i choose free and modify my registry entries to keep it that way. I have since recanted when it comes to this website...wow is all i have to say. The level of skill of those of you that design things is amazing...i can't begin to touch that, im still learning that you can erase stuff in microsoft paint thank you wincustomize for providing the forum and i am more than willing to part with my hard earned shekels to support this amazing site, as others have said, it is well WELL worth the pitance!

Keep the faith, keep designing and we will support you for it!

Oops -- I wanted to renew my WinCustomize subscription now instead of next April to help the drive, but I renewed OD too, also early. My wallet may now be empty, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of both of them, and there is so much to learn!

I subscribed last week to be sure to get in before the deadline. I downloaded & installed both the browser and tray programs. Now Stardock Central says there are newer versions, I click "Update Now" but it doesn't Any ideas??? I'm not too concerned since they are minor version updates(2.00.021 & 1.30.005), but I figure something might be wrong since it keeps saying I need to update but not updating. At first I thought it might be becasue I hadn't put the Wincustomize subscription number into SD Central, but it doesn't work even after doing that. The programs don't appear on any of the lists (OD, misc, etc.), so I can't manually update either. Thanks much!!

Should say Wincustomize on the left of SDC - if it doesn't, right click in the left column and choose customize, then make sure Wincustomize is checked to show.

Grey Bird: I had that annoyance with Wincustomize browser wanting to update everytime I opened SDC, and would never update anything. Then I got my subscription and it finally took the update.

Thanks, Sir Bichur, that helped tremendously! When I went to do a manual update, it gave an error on autoarchiving Wincustomize Browser or Wincustomize Tray (couldn't find a file "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\installed\???.xml") and stated that auto archive failed. It then asked if it should continue, I said yes and it completed successfully. Apparently the update that runs when detecting updates on SDC startup just fails at that point without the error message. I'm guessing the error message is because I installed downloaded WinCustomize and installed it, rather than installing it through SDC.

To Scorpio-logic: Thanks for your answer and your time.

I just bought Object Desktop Net. Ed., but i thought that I could update my WinCustomize account with the OD Stardock account and it would be the same as getting a sub. to WC????? Has anyone heard how to put that info on your WinCustomize account??

You need to purchase a SEPARATE subscription to WC. It is not included with your subscription to Object Desktop. What you're doing is just LINKING your OD subscription information to a registered account on WC. But if you want WC subscription privledges, you will have to log into WC and purchase a sub.
