Windows NOT skinned after restart

Friday, September 23, 2005 by Plop2 | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I just recently started having a problem with WB. I can apply any skin and as long as I do not restart my PC all is well. When I restart I get the default XP skin, I then have to unload WB (it won't let me just reapply a skin) then reload and reapply a skin. Using WB ver. 4.60.048. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling WB.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the freeware or registered version?

Try creating a shortcut to "wbload.exe" file in your startup folder.

loads and doesn't skin? that's odd. assuming since you said recent, that version was working before. have you recently added or changed any antivirus or antianything that may be stopping it?

I am using the registered version and WB loads on startup it just doesn't skin anything.

Sounds like a corrupted file, or the OS is trying to run an instance of "wbload.exe" that is no longer available for some reason.

Try unloading WB > restore all icon via Icon Packager if you use the program > restore Windows XP default theme via DisplayProperties\ThemesTab\Themes list > Uninstall WindowBlinds via Stardock Central > reboot machine > delete any WindowBlinds folder left in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder > move any WindowBlinds archives (".zip" files) found in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP" folder to a safe location in say My Documents > reinstall WindowBlinds > reboot > test program.

If that fails, and you have a System Restore point before the issues appeared, you could try restoring to that point.

Note - if you do not have Stardock Central the zapper utility can be downloaded here https://www.stardock.com/files/ODNT_zapper.exe - just double-click after downloading and use the uninstall tab to select and remove programs.

I hope this helps in some way.

Having the same problem. I have tried everything suggested here and it is still happening. Been a user of windowblinds for a long time and have had little trouble with it until now. Any other suggestions?

Check the thread 'Fix for non applying WB5 install' if you have th eissues of no skinning at all.

If that's not it, what issues are you having still?

Cheers!
