ATI is the VERY MINISCULELY SLOWER but more flexible video card, they can be major uber overclocked to speeds that blew my girlfriends clothes off and still handel gaming on a widescreen monitor. Also their warrant is lifetime, they trust their own product.
nVidia is the UBER DUBER SPEEDY GONZALES but standard video card, they start out really fast but can't be overclocked and usually wont play most games on widescreen resolutions. Also their warranty sucks a**.

BFG 7800GS OC AGP just bought and compared to my ATI X850 XT it blows it out of the water. Will for sure stick with NVidia in future VC upgrades.

My Dell Dimension C521 is kinda messed up 
It comes with a nVidia GeForce 6150 LE integrated chip but also comes with an ATI Radeon X1300Pro, which I am using as my default card...it kicks some serious arse...I really dont care about brands as long as it works great.

i have an ATi 9600 pro 256mb and haven't had a problem with it, Nvidia may be a better brand
but with that comes price too. I'll stick with ATi

I'll stick also with ATI. My onboard chip is ATI.
I don't want to buy a nVidia card and have troubles afterwards with some conflicts between the ATI onboard chip and the nVidia card.

Nvidia has won the GPU battle for the next 3 months and they have won the previous 3 months as well. Interesting that ATI doesn't start pouring more money into R&D.

It all comes down to personal preference, but thats only if you're using Windows XP. If your going to use Windows Vista then its ATi hands down. Nvidia has had nothing but horrible drivers for the OS. I waited 5 months for some decent drivers before I gave up and went to ATi.

Interesting perspective. I can't think of anybody who would choose Vista over XP though. Could you elaborate over why you have Vista instead of XP. Came with a new comp and you were forced maybe?

dan, i prefer vista over xp because since i installed vista, i have yet to experience a blue screen of death. xp hardly ever crashed but it did on occasion. vista never has crashed. no, vista didn't come pre-installed on my machine. i build my machines and decide which os and software are installed.
and i really like my ati radeon 1950 xt, too.

Just a couple random thoughts.....
I had the exact opposite experience with Vista and ATI.....gave up and went to a different laptop running a NVidia GF 7600 and couldn't be happier. Have always been a big ATI fan, but NVidia seems to be ahead in the current cycle. Funny how things change every 6 or 12 months.
Have to agree with Snidely regarding Vista not crashing. I've been running it for 5 months now and haven't had any complaints other than the UAC crap that I turn off.

Well I'm glad you are happy with what you built, I dont' have any experience with Vista, I do have about 2 hours or online research, and a few 1st hand accounts of use with it in comparison to XP.
From my understanding Vista is missing a lot of promised features that 6-9 months after it dropped still haven't been patched. It also eats up double the RAM of XP's heaviest install, and its lagging behind in drivers and performance.

Nah, I stay clear from proprietary hardware like its the plague. I upgraded to it immediately after its release. I find it to be a far superior OS. I have no problems and havent even throughout the beta process.
Oh and I thought I'd mention that even though the 8 series are DX10 cards doesn't mean they run on Vista flawlessly. I hear the newer drivers from nVidia are better but still not up to par with ATi.

Nah, I stay clear from proprietary hardware like its the plague. I upgraded to it immediately after its release. I find it to be a far superior OS. I have no problems and havent even throughout the beta process.

Before Vista I was running an ATI Radeon x1300 which was pretty awesome...

Who cares so long as they can run objectdesktop life without OD just aint worth livin in my book i only bought nvidia N7600GS AGP, coz nvidia intergrated was already installed & it seemed ok
