Major Winodows Issues

...And Microsoft Support Sucks

Thursday, July 14, 2005 by KeithMacDonald | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I've ran into a huge problem. I use Windows XP Service Pack 2, for the records. Anyways, sometimes when I try to use Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer, I get the message saying either Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I have tried pressing Debug, Send Error Report and Don't Send Error Report, all to no avail. I use Firefox, so it's lucky I'm able to get online at all.

It only does it sometimes, and I do not wish to reinstall XP. Anyone have any ideas? Edit: It has something to do with the file ole32.dll

Well, first thing I Generally try is a full spyware scan, online preferably.  I usehttp://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (make sure you chose the complete scan, the one that looks for pests).

When did this start happening?

Do you run ad-aware programs?  Is your virus protection up-to-date?

Yrag  had us try a program called *hijack this* last night because we were experiencing similar problems.  http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html  I can't interpret it for you though, but maybe someone else could.

He also asked if I was using IP 3.0 and suggested rolling back to an earlier version.

Turn off the Windows firewall and allow Explorer access in Trusted and Internet zones in Shaw. The Internet needs access to the TCP stack.

OK...let's keep it simple......turn off one of the firewalls. Power cycle (turn off, then on) your modem and reboot to reset your settings........
