4th of July.

Any Plans?

Here in the U.S. the 4th of July is kind of a cool Holiday. The bad part is a bunch of Yahoos blowing off fireworks at all hours of the night, the cool part is a bunch of yahoos blowing off fireworks at all hours of the night.

Does anyone have anything special planned? Other than watching a "professional" fireworks display, I plan on taking it easy and not thinking about work.

Probably have a cookout with all the relatives and then take the granddaughters to see the fireworks display!

Fire up the grill, drink a couple of beers, watch some fireworks ... typical average American stuff.

The city is having a 4th of July event, so my Martial Arts school is doing several demonstrations that day. I will be there most of the day, then my family will join me later because my daughter is in one of the demos.

We are having a traditional cook-out with the same group of people we have every year. Then we go to see the towns fireworks.

After we come home we become one of the yahoos setting off fireworks.
Although, we are courteous enough to stop before it gets to late. Even the cops do not mind because they know we are careful and clean everything up afterwords. Technically, fireworks are not allowed in our area. We did not get quite as much this year (only spent 395.00) but most of them are the big shots 500 grams.

Probably going to go see War of the Worlds on Sunday, then, if Revenge of the Sith is still playing at my local theater, I'm gonna squeeze in another viewing of that on the 4th. Yes, I am a geek, and proud of it .

Here in my town, they actually cancelled the fireworks display last week! They said they didn't have enough money to do fireworks on both the 4th and then on the city's centennial, so they decided to just do the centennial fireworks and scrap the 4th. Well, of course, that caused a lot of controversy, so thank goodness, a local charitable organization stepped in with a big check to cover costs, a fireworks company able to put on the show was found on short notice, and now we're gonna have fireworks on the 4th .

Now, something else that has caused a little controversy...the aforementioned city centennial fireworks show is scheduled for September 11th. Quite a few people are really uncomfortable with that, with the city throwing a huge party and shooting off fireworks on that date .

4th of July.


I'll be in Washington D.C. on Independence Day. Should be amazing. It'll be my wife's first time at the Capitol.

And can I make a recommendation? Call it Independence day. The "4th of July is getting to be a day to fire off fireworks, not a day to celebrate and remember how we got the freedom we have.

My wife thought I was crazy when I started encouraging my kids to call it that. She still thinks I'm crazy, but she avoids "4th of July" now too.

I'm gonna be working. By choice. After work I'll cruise the net till dark then watch the neighbors light of fireworks.

by choice: renting a tractor to do some yard work sat/sun - grilling and chilling at night - guarding my yard from fire - been droughtish, real dry, neighbors don't care if they burn your land.
If they have a display in town will go see it (last i checked - cancelled due burn bans)

4th of July is kind of a cool Holiday

Not where I live. It should be at least 90+ degrees and close to 100% humidity.

We have fun anyway. Today's (Thurs) the Rolex 250 race at Daytona leading into the big NASCAR weekend for the Firecracker 400. I'm hoping the rain holds off long enough today to get the race in. It's already close to being the wetest June on record in Central Florida. They think we'll break the record this afternoon. Something like 18.4 inches. We have family coming over Monday afternoon for the required BBQ then we'll head out about 7:00 to get good seats for the City of Sanford Fireworks show on Lake Monroe.

July 1 Canada Day. Just back from the fireworks display. They get worse every year as insurance rates for these event keep going up. Going to spend most of the weekend watch football ( CFL, real football, only 3 downs.).
