I think you all raise valid points, I dont really like buying anything online for a start, but to have this amount of downloads to make my computer look fantastic, I recon it would be worth the $20, or in my case, being australian... I think thats $30, no good at currency...

I do understand what you're saying. At first I was hesitant to pay money to a "website", but I went ahead and bought a subscription anways. I don't regret it one bit.

After I got my subscription to Wincustomize, I bought the subscription to Object Desktop. These were two great purchases and if Stardock keeps it up, I will keep renewing.

Actually it's a great bargain. The contributors to WinCustomize have created a number of excellent skins and wallpapers and having to pay for something is a small price to keep the site alive. Obviously you've found a lot of stuff that has captured your fancy and think it's worth downloading - is it too much to expect that it's worth something more?

I've been a user of Stardock products from 2000 when I first purchased my copy of Object Desktop. Over the years I've purchased several premium suites, maintained my subscription to OD and paid for the enhanced versions of CursorXP and ObjectDock. I've always believed that if you don't support developers of excellent products, they'll die on a vine.

I don't buy EVERYTHING and I try a lot of different applications. I look for free alternatives first but sometimes you've got to bite the bullet and pay for what you want.

Just my opinion

I'll admit, my first experence with Object Desktop, was a DL from Kazaa. Free in other words. About two days later, I bought it. It has so many different things to offer. I am a WindowBlinds addict. I probably have everyone of them. The WallPaper's are good, and it's just a good place to come see something different. This was back in 2000, when I started Object Desktop. I just bought Object Desktop again for another year. And I just paid for my internet for two years. After all that runs out. I quit. The internet isn't fun anymore. It's just another commercial. P.S. I don't buy virtual stuff anymore. I have bought a couple of things, but now, I want it on a cd at least.

I also try to find free programs for what I want. I saw in the Sunday paper that The Geek Squad from Best Buy that, for $249, they will come to you're house and take the spyware and viruses off you're computer. DL AVG and Adaware, an it'll do the same thing, and it's free.

My Object desktop runs out sometimes this summer...Will I renew it ?
Absolutely.

Its a shame most dont understand how much they don't get with the free shareware versions. I have learned how to do things I never thought i'd be able to do. The price is very minimal for what you get. Besides all the stuff everyone shares with you for " Free " You have the programs that allow you to create or alter to your own needs.
You talk about spending money for something " virtual " but im sure you wouldn't blink at $70 for a Video game.
Give yourself a gift thats more than a game.

Citizen MountainDragon, I only get the channels from my antenna. I see nothing wrong with that. Poor choice to make a comparison with.

WOM - I was in no way disparaging getting tv by antenna. If that's what works, no problem. I was suggesting that if someone pays for cable or satelite, then they are paying for something "virtual".

You can get CursorXP for $10.00. That'll get rid of your dl cap.

I would buy the full version of those programs, but I'm saving for computer parts and I don't have a job yet.

I'm curious- I already have ObjectDesktop, ObjectDock Plus & CursorXP Plus. Will I be hitting a limit if I don't subscribe on top of these purchases?

Let me add that I love this place- We get so many pre-tested, malware-safe skins with a broad range of taste and expertise, ranging from professional skins to submissions created with MS Paint-- very democratic & enlightening. Also minimal flaming, especially in skin evaluations. All these things are part of the investment

Some people here are willing to make one for you if you would like. I need to wait until I get home (goofing off at work now), but if you have any ideas on what you want, I or another can whip one up for you.

Actually, it's a shareware version. The idea is that you can try it out and see if you like it before you buy it. You miss out on some of the best features of WindowBlinds skins with the shareware version. It's well worth the $20, although the whole Object Desktop suite for $50 is an even better deal.

Last time I used the shareware version it did everything that the pro version did...

It didn't skin toolbar icons or progress animations. I'm pretty sure there are a few other things as well.
