Dread Weapon System
Devastating, Jam-Proof, and Silent
Thursday, May 19, 2005 by Tarkus | Discussion: Community
No heat, no recoil, no sound, no gunpowder, no flash -- just 120,000 rounds per minute of pulverizing power. The next generation of weapons systems has arrived: the DREAD centrifuge-powered weapon system.

You sure do. Are you ever going to get over the one we had so many months ago. I will not try and be nice to you again, as I can see you like to hold a very long grudge. You should change your avatar, it does not accurateley describe you.

The truly sad thing here is that someone believed such a devastating weapon was even necessary.
Also, DZ, my point about firearms only in self defence was that if there was no aggression, there'd be no shots fired in anger and no reason to retaliate in kind. In any event, using such a weapon is barbaric, in self defence or otherwise.

Thrads get 'derailed' often.... but in this case it's not quite 'black and white'. This weapon concept naturally raises such issues of 'overkill' [yep, great pun] and war, foreign policy, et al, so it's not necessarily 'off-topic'.
Comments 'shouldn't' be deleted ad hoc just for that, otherwise responses must be as well....and all that is draconian censorship that people justly despise.
Back on topic....a home-grown inventor in Oz with no weapon/balistic background came up with an electric fired tube gun....all the bullets in the one barrel .... that had the capacity to fire at a silly rate of knots .... was so 'good' the US Military got all 'moist' and he probably got rich.
This thingie uses centrifuge....it's the equivalent of the big brat in the schoolyard throwing stones harder and faster than you can.
Morbidly curiously interesting technology....all we need is new and better ways to kill people...
Dunno about that zero inertia B.S. in space....last I heard...every action has an equal and opposite one...so if that's the scope of their physics prowess the whole thing's a dud...

Tarkus, I do apologize as well for getting myself involved in the debate..but as WG points out, it is a touchy subject..I have been raised in a military family so I suppose thats where my point of views are born from..
I do agree that all the coversation was relavant to the weapon itself, but it perhaps not the direction you really wanted it to go..
W/G..perhaps when I have more time (gotta run in a few mins here) we could open a thread concerning this vary topic so that others may share their points of view..
in the mean time,
Take care everyone!
Zero.

I think I already said that
Clwoods...close but not quite. Your point?
DoubleZero...I Never argue...God knows I try...I just share thoughts and opinions.
Keep'em busy so they don't notice what I'm doing.
No seriously...I'm only one person DZ...and I never did enough drugs in the sixties to think I'm going to change anything alone. But I have always stood my ground. When I see something that I don't feel we should be doing or something that is obviously wrong ...like looking for imaginary weapons of mass destruction...I write my representatives and tell them how I feel about it. I get involved in anything I can that will let our representatives know that at least some of us are watching and that whatever they are doing or trying to do is not going un-noticed. And if I can put a damper on what they are doing by drawing attention to them I do my best to do so. When I think they are doing something that is a bunch of bulls..t, I write to the newspapers as well as them.
So you asked what you can do? Just get involved...take a stand and do whatever "you" can to make a difference. It certainly won't happen over night, and maybe not even in our lifetime. But when the time comes for me to take the big dirt nap...I know I at least tried.
Not at all...this government has made far to many enemies for us to do that. We need to mend a lot of fences and rebuild a lot of bridges before we could ever consider something like that.
No argument there...we would be toast at the first sign of doing that because of all the enemies this government has been so kind to make for us...and that could still happen regardless...a show of force does not guarantee you safety...its a nice deterrent...but thats all...
And they would love for you to continue thinking that way...and they will always use fear to keep you thinking that...the average person in this country is easily manipulated by fear...I'd love to see you disappoint them...if people in this country thought for themselves instead of blindly believing the clowns running this country I seriously doubt we would be in Iraq. Mark my words...nothing will change in Iraq! For that to happen we need to go to several other countries in the middle east and do the same thing we are pointlessly attempting to do in Iraq. Only one problem...every year our armed forces is getting smaller and smaller because less and less people are willing to die for for a pointless cause...it's gotten to the point that they have to trick kids into joining...but hey...we got bigger weapons and we are really good at re-arranging dirt.
Honestly DZ...you can develop all the weapons you want and continue to maintain our defenses...But if someone seriously wanted to cause major damage to this country it really wouldn't be all that hard to do and could be done without firing a shot...And of course our government officials would be safely tucked away in some bunker somewhere while you were left to fend for yourself...buy lots of duct tape and plastic sheeting...
Lies are told...deals are made...we are no closer to peace than before...as long as the rich politicians are in power we will never make any "real" progress towards peace...only superficial progress for a superficial peace.
Any time a politician see's a way to make money from war by bombing someone else you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be there to fight them nasty terrorists...conspirators...or whatever lable they choose to give them at the time...fear is a powerful tool...and this government uses it well...and your kids pay the price...with their lives.
Saddam Hussein was nothing more than the equivalent of your neighborhood bully
on a grander scale. They say he had weapons of mass destruction...that was a bunch of bull...he no doubt had chemical weapons because Bushes daddy sold them to him...and that's not my opinion...that's a fact...
So...if we we're really concerned about WMD's or how a ruler treats his people...one country comes to mind....North Korea...Hello! Over here! We have WMD's!...And our people cook tree bark, dirt and rocks for soup to survive...and there are many other countries that treat their people just as bad...but do you think we will ever go there?...not unless our so-called concerned humanitarian country has something to gain by it.
I began a long time ago when I was just a kid...speaking out...writing letters...generally being the biggest pain in the ass I can towards government officials...and have been doing it ever since. I can pretty much guarantee you I've been on government watch lists for a long time. It's a price you pay for speaking out...and it comes with the territory...and it's not for everyone...but freedom is not free...and peace does not come without a price
But this is all just "MY" opinion and what "I" do to try and make a difference.
"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue till they have resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they suppress."
~ Frederick Douglas ~
"You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence."
~ Charles A. Beard ~
"In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
~Mark Twain~
