WC Instant Messaging

Good or Bad Idea?

Wednesday, April 27, 2005 by Elfkura | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

This is a good and bad idea, so I'm not sure what to do.

I recalled that Deskmod once had on site instant messaging, meaning one user can leave a message for another. I suppose the suggestion is useful in that one member can msg another on short notice about concerns or problems or just need to talk privately.

However, the problem I run into is this. Once something like this is offered, our avatars, admins, super wizops, wizops, and everyone else above the journeyman level will probably get bombarded with thousands of messages, making it tedious. I have no solution on that, but give me time, I might think up something after my finals are over.

Peace. Out.

Mwah, email is always preferable to the poor man's substitute thereof. I really dislike these ISM's. Always forget to read them and what not.

Almost every messageboard-related site has some sort of PM feature. DeviantART has notes, and all those phpBB boards come with PM built in, like Neowin. A PM feature would be most welcome, and damn useful for both the Admins and users alike...I don't see why they haven't implemented this yet...they are slacking on the messageboard trends...

I find it quite akward the way it is not. To leave messages around the forum and guestbook in a desperate hope that they'll be seen by the correct person.
Practicly noone, including me, prefer not have their email listed in any website in fear of spam.

It would be a good idea to implement. Then again, I prefer the IRC to bug my skinner friends

I would like to see T-man and crew be allowed to put the finishing touches on the features we already have as well as working out site speed issues (there are times when WC reminds me what it was like on dial-up ) Also if someone wants to be able to be contacted, without checking the messageboards or guestbook, they can make their email addy visible in their profile.

LOL, this isn't for now, per se. It's just for future reference. I have a bad habit of forgetting ideas

I actually think it's a great idea to have a site IM/PM system as well (when the time is right of course..LOL) As for...

However, the problem I run into is this. Once something like this is offered, our avatars, admins, super wizops, wizops, and everyone else above the journeyman level will probably get bombarded with thousands of messages, making it tedious

Impliment a "Privacy" feature that can be adjusted to allow and or disallow any or all screen names if so desired. It would actually help the Admins I think to be able to pull someone aside and talk to them privately about whatever issue may arise that need not be displayed publically..

With a "Stealth - Non-stealth" feature the Admins can choose when they want to be "bombarded" and when they do not, or infact choose never to really come out of "stealth" but simply contact whoever it is they wish to speak with from "stealth"...
Im sure there are a few Admins that wouldnt mind being "bombarded" LoL occassionally, For some reason I just do not think it would be as bad as all that ..

Just my thoughts on the subject,
Zero.
