No More Windowblinds :(

It was either Yahoo or WB and I had to choose...

Wednesday, February 23, 2005 by ~Angelic DestinE | Discussion: WindowBlinds

After careful experimentation with various installations and removals it's my sad duty to report that no matter what I do, WindowBlinds is not compatible with Yahoo Messenger v6 in that when I have WB loaded, I cannot right-click on my Yahoo Messenger links without closing the program. It gets highly annoying. I decided that I needed to keep Yahoo in lieu of WindowBlinds and just find another way to keep customizing. Think I found a viable solution although I am already dogtired of the blue, silver, and olive plain old Luna schemes. We'll see what happens with my new batch of screenshots. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem if they are a Yahoo user?

Yahoo skins itself, or so they say, therefore it causes a conflict. Open the WB Configuration dialog > Per Application > Add per application setting > browse to the Yahoo.exe file, and select it > check the "Ignore this application, and do not skin it" entry, and OK.

That should solve your problem with Yahoo.

Sorry, can't confirm this behavior. Yahoo Messenger doesn't give me any problems, skinned by itself, skinned by WB or not skinned at all.

Thanks Koasati. I tried that, also tried installing Yahoo 5 which is independent of the Windows system schemes and it still @#$#ed up on me. I tried using y6 skins and also no skins whatsoever, and even did as you suggested to ignore the application and just have Yahoo be skinned as though it were in Windows Classic. No dice. Grrrrrrrrrr at Yahoo. Every time I right-click on a name or a feature the stupid thing shuts down on me. Um, what do you guys say about Trillian? Will it really combine all my MSN, Yahoo and AIM contacts and save some RAM usage?

Trillian is a great application. It is solid (at least for me) and, yes, it will collect all MSN, Yahoo, AIM and IRC contact lists into one program, as well as IRC chat.

I have been using Trillian for years and have had no complaints.

Trillian is great! (Other than being a pain to skin) Yes it really will combine MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and AIM. If you're using more than one of those, you owe it to yourself to try it.

Make sure you don't have an option set in WB to close windows on 'right-click'...

I use Yahoo v6 sometimes and I don't see WB skinning it at all. I haven't clicked on any links though.

Nope never heard of that proggie but here's what I did: I rebooted my entire system again. I downloaded WindowBlinds first before downloading any other Messenger programs. Y6 was the last thing I downloaded and it was working fine until I applied a WB. Well guess what? I like my WBs and I like my Yahoo so I tried what Koasati said to do... again, and I have WB set now to totally ignore Ypager.exe and... I can now right-click on my Yahoo Messenger and it works.
I'm quite happy. AND I also downloaded Trillian and gave it a try because I like the fact that you can choose which Messengers you can appear visible on. Since AOL is my ISP I never had the option of appearing invis to AIM contacts. Now I do. So life got better this week. Thanks to everyone who posted to me.
