Bootskins?

The bootskin library is bloated with crap and images that violate copyright IMHO!

Is this art?

Do these violate copyright...there are lots of images from gameloading screens, dvd covers scans, movie image screencaptures, copyrighted cartoon characters, etc?

Why does this stuff exist here? This isn't a case of new skinners creating a skin for the first time that needs some work because they're new at it.

Thanks AJ. I understand what you mean by publicity images. I also understand that the task to sift through what is a publicity images vs. what isn't is too much to ask and therefore if the copyright holder isn't complaining then no need to worry so long as when they do fire off a letter the offending imagery gets removed. All makes sense and is less task-intensive.

So let me see if I got this right. If I go to the Paris by Night All Night Every Night Photo Gallery and convert a photo I find there to a 4-bit image, editing out any naughty bits, add a little progressbar zipping across the screen and it'll fit right in with the other bootskins of "uncertain" caliber and reside happily here along side the others until Paris's Daddy calls and asks for it to be removed.

My mistake about the downloads comment. I read it again. Sorry about that. As for GW could anyone really have watched SNL with four years of Kerry parodies? The show would get cancelled. GW makes much better fodder for comedians

I was the one who mentioned downloads. I only mentioned it as I have seen on occassion newbies who really wanted to rack up the download count and so uploaded lots of crap, figuring that quantity would overcome lack of quality.

This certainly doesn't apply to everyone, or even most. I have, however, read enough comments along those lines to think that there are those for whom the main impetus to upload is to see the downloads.

I know they could both be argued on fan art but, even though both are big copyrighted trademarks for big companies, one is original work, the other is on a billion web sites nintendo/videogame based, hell that picture is right in the zelda instruction book, and a couple dozen magazines. And the apple thing you already explained to me before =p I still have the email lol
