Oh my GOD! school administrators are sooooooo dumb!
they freak out when you get into MSDOS/Command prompt
Tuesday, January 11, 2005 by MadPyro | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
problem is that we arent supposed to be able to get into drive C: to access the command.com file right? wrong. easy enough to access it using any application out there. MORONS
ok, so i net send a message to my friend... that was yesterday...
today, 6th period, 2 security personelle come in to escort me to the friggin principals office. HA! i need no escort... i walk calmly to the office and sit down to wait.
chat a little with the security morons and find out that this is about MSDOS and me. quickly, i formulate a plan in my mind: bullshit em so much that they wont even know it.
so, finally, the principal calls me in and asks me to sit down, the two security morons on either side of me.
"so, do you know what this is about?"
"well kind of, steve [security moron #1] hinted that its about msdos stuff"
"yes, you see, we have disabled command prompt from these school computers for a reason, so that kids [pauses] cant harm the school's system and somehow, you managed to get into it and did something there..."
"yes?"
"and we feel that this may pose a threat to our system"
"*chuckle*"
"whats so funny?"
"well, you see, two things;
1. command prompt isnt disabled, its hidden in drive C: to which the system doesnt allow access.
2. MSDOS cant do much against xp. all i did was test sending a message to a friend using net send, it worked so i was like sweet!"
"yes and we feel that this can be a threat to us."
"sir, if i wanted to screw up the school system, there are alot easier ways of doing that. and if i wanted to screw it up, i would NOT use my account to do it from"
"hm..."
"see, on windows Xp, you disabled access to drive C:. when i am bored, i screw around... one day, while trying to load objects for lightwave into lightwave, i was forced to find a way to get into drive C:."
"yes...?"*takes notes*
"so, all i did was open lightwave, go file....open....browse... and in the address bar, type "C:". all that did was throw me to "my documents", i found this kind of funny since it should show "drive C: inaccessible" so i hit the "up one level" button and it took me back one level, i hit it a couple more times and Ooo... drive c: bingo! i opened lightwave and objects and i was able to load an object."
"yes? and how does this make you able to open command prompt?"
"same way i opened that i can open command.com... see? go windows/system32/command.com [opens it on hit computer]"
"i see... and how do you do this 'net send'thing?"
"*sigh* [type 'net send maloym test'] see? message arrives saying test"
"i see...."
*scribbles notes*
[i notice security morons leaning to see it too]
****bell rings****
"saved by the bell... can i go catch my bus? you can call me in tomorrow"
"ok, i will call you in around 3rd period"
"ok {[mutter] sheesh...}"
heart pounding, i pick up my backpack and head out the door... i walk by the front desk and notice the secretary staring at me with a dissaproving glance....
-----------to be continued tomorrow after the next debate--------------------
wish me luck, i cant get suspended, im a senior and i need to finish this year...

Those days when the only computers in school ran Windows 98 and used Netscape.
That's what I remember from "computer lab". The most trouble I got in was installing StarCraft and using the school's "network" to run a LAN between myself and a few buddies. Not exactly smiled upon, but I didn't need to be told how to use a computer in school and found the teacher blabbing on for 45 minutes to be rather snooze-inducing.
Detention isn't so bad. lol
The first time I used a computer was in 1964. It was a huge machine that filled a room and we "typed" rectangular holes in cards which were batched into a hopper. It took all night to run a batch. I remember thinking how nice it would be if we could actually see what we were typing.
Fast Forward to the mid eighties. I worked for a high tech DoD company and there was a network of terminals connected to a DEC Vax 11785 - the rocket ship of its time. Everyone was expected to learn how to use a computer. Fortunately, I was already DOS proficient. We worked in a Unix environment and online searching was done via ARPANET (the future internet). Most everyone enjoyed learning the "new stuff" but one engineer was a royal pain in the butt and he seemed to think I was his personal computer slave. He gave the IT guys a hard time all the time and did some unbelievably dumb things over and over again. He was not a nice person either. He was so rude and nasty that I decided to do the only bad computer thing I've ever done in my life.
Back in those days, there was no security so I turned on his terminal early one morning and set the type color to black - same as the background color. Of course, when he came in, he was ranting and raving and came looking for me because his terminal "didn't work." I told him I had no idea what could have happened and we needed to call the computer department. I thought they would figure it out quickly but they didn't! They ended up bringing him a new terminal (expensive for the time) and I heard that it took them several days to figure out what really happened. Of course, they blamed the engineer because he was always doing dumb stuff. The engineer quit bugging me because I couldn't "fix" his terminal so I was demoted to just another dumb female in his eyes.
The next year we got PCs and Windows 3.1! Woo Hoo! Sooo there it is - my nefarious past.
Confession is good for the soul....

Haha! Nice. I'm not exactly old enough to remember THAT far back. ![]()
I do remember using my dad's PC running Windows 3.1 though. That was an awesome OS. lol
I remember creating an error just by removing all of the desktop icons and placing them inside grouped folders. I thought I was making things clean and tidy and I ended up crashing the system instead.
*sigh* being a 5 year old was tough. ![]()

About 5 years back I downloaded what I thought was an old sailing ship screensaver... turned out to be a slideshow of topless beauties instead. Anyhow, that evening we got a visit from a policewoman with regard to a complaint we'd made, and you guessed it, the unattended screen started to display all these nuddy women and she spotted them.
Needless to say, I went several shades of
..... though the policewoman helped ease my embarrassment with a quip about one of the models: "Now there's a girl who shouldn't jog... not even in a sports bra."
I think the naughtiest thing I ever did on a PC was wait until my mother went to bed and trawl one of the joke sites for a sassy cartoon I could set as a wallpaper. After a conversation about aging and failing body parts one evening, the wallpaper I set for her to see first thing when she logged in the next morning was a cartoon of an old lady with her boobies caught in one of those old clothes wringers. I don't recall the caption right now, but I do remember having to get her a cloth.... to wipe the tea off the screen.

I'm thinkin' it wasn't the "Sailing Ships" (nifty euphemism for those balloon spinakers, Cap'n) the police woman was interested in....but the mizzen mast instead.....ARRRRR!
As for the cartoon? I hope (fer the sake of yer butt) you didn't tell her, "Mum, don't get yer (blank) in a wringer." Such an error could have seriously shortened your lifespan.

Some people have nothing but luxury. Talk about the silver spoon. Over privileged bastage.
All we had were little sticks to made dents in mud tablets made by carrying water 50 miles in our bare hands!
