Do you use a Vertical Taskbar?

Sunday, October 31, 2004 by Phoon | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm just curious to know how many people use a Vertical Taskbar.

In other words, should I bother with support for vertical layouts in a Windowblind?

don't know if you're looking for positive or negative so... no, don't use vertical taskbar.

It isn't a positive or negative type question really.
If a majority of responses are in favor of a vertical taskbar, then I will incorporate it in designs.

- Actually, it is a pain to do though and I think it ruins the look of a theme.

I don't use them, but on the skins I've made, I've skinned them

I think they need to be skinned. I don't use the Windows taskbar at all, but I skin them if I'm going to upload...... my $.02

Will do in the next one probably. I'm getting ready to submit a new blind and looking at it with a vertical taskbar makes the start button say.. "EEEEWWWWW".
Next time, I will plan that into the theme.

I do not use them either but I agree that they need to be skinned for the ones that do. I do not use Quick Launch either but it is part of a totally skinned WB.

Well, lemme take a second look before I submit then.
Too bad there isn't support for a Vertical Start Button though, because it REALLY skews your start button if it isn't a "square" one.

I agree..... it's a pain, and if it really screws up your design, and you can't find a work-around, then don't include it. Just explain why it's not included, so verticle taskbar users know before they download..

Seperate graphics and setting for vertical start buttons would be great wouldn't it?

If you want to add vertical taskbar support and the normal start button really isn't suitable then you can always make a seperate verticl taskbar substyle

Darn you Tiggs! There goes my reason for not making one.

I never use them, and my designs never worked well with them(but I never tried Tiggs way either)

Really it was just laziness...if I didnt use it ,I didnt make it.

Quick Launch

If'n you don't want to skin these buttons, you can delete these images and the quicklaunch buttons will use the taskbar buttons. Actually solves the problem of the quicklaunch up arrow looking goofy with some button designs

Essencay notices the caliber of skinners replying here....you guys probably already knew this

Always use fullsized vertical, with expand/collapse, and make them for use with big icons, 72 or above, need special buttons to look ok
You must have one !

Essencay - didn't know that. I tend to use the same image for the quicklaunch buttons but sometimes with different content margin settings. Do you mean it can stop that "half a button" effect on the expand arrow button for very rounded designs?

I don't use them all the time, but I like to move my taskbar around a lot, top, bottom, and either side. So, yes, I do use vertical taskbars on occassion. I really appreciate when it is included, but it isn't too big of a deal if not.

I try to avoid using ANY taskbar, but if I do have one, its either on the top or the bottom. I dont like the sides....
