Oops sorry I should have been more clear. I already know that but I just upgraded to Windows Professional and when I had Home Edition I could change the name but in Pro I cant find where to do that and in user accounts it seems you cant change it in there anymore or something.

Dr Watson's reply above was accurate...

and in user accounts it seems you cant change it in there anymore or something.

So you found it? Or didn't you ? I'm confused. In 'User Accounts' click the account that you want to change and it comes up with a range of options one of which is 'Change My Name'.

Are you logged in as a limited rights user? In this case you may not be allowed to change it.

You'll need 'admin' rights when you log in to access the user accounts....

I am logged in as administrator and the only options I get are Create a password, Change my picture, and Change my .NET Passport. This happened to my friend also he said he just had to reformate

If it's the computer name, not the User name....go to control panel - system properties - computer name......[quite logical, really]...

Is it a brand-new install? Maybe you are logged in as admin and have to create the username before you can alter it's properties. Normally you are prompted to enter an 'everyday' username during install (can be given admin rights however)

I've never tried it but it's possible that the system's Administrator login may not be allowed to be changed under any circumstances (I'll bow to greater wisdom on this). Is it this account you're trying to modify?
