Is a high resolution version of bootskin still going to happen?

Just wondering whether anybody can say whether or not the high resolution version of bootskin is still in the works or not. I thought I also heard once that the beta version would be released on stardock central "as is" if they gave up on developing a version for release. Any info would be appreciated.

Skins Like ToonXP, Skies and a lot more are Cool and Look Great even in 16 Colors. I beleive i was asking for permission to port a Wall into a bootskin from the author. Never got the response but that wall diddnt have a single pixel of loss when it got dow to 16 color. It had reached the top downloads list and would be an a$$ kickin bootskin. too bat never got the permission. (Actually I think the author was accused of ripping. ((Shadowness_7))

dont those who check bootskin submissions check the preview image supplied as well? i find the next annoying thing is the bootskins where you cant see the preview image (Just the thumbnail) it all 'looks' okay @ 300x225, but it can be a different story when were talking about 640x480 full screen..

It wasn't just talk. However, if Stardock is unable to support the skin due to problems with all of the graphics hardware out there, it is infeasible to release it as a product. Perhaps it could be done with a specific compatability list, but it's hard to be dead certain that such a low level thing will work in all circumstances (and if it doesn't, the result is harsh). That's why they pay the Windows guys a lot, and even then they mess it up sometimes.

Even if they can't finish development or support the product, I'm all for trying the higher color beta version as-is. I just want to know if we can still get the beta if the project gets mothballed.

There's a reasonably smooth gradient and the glassy effect works well. It can be done.
