Is the windows enhancement community ready for heavy graphic skins?
Thursday, September 9, 2004 by Styl-X Design | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Its not hard to see that a lot of WMP skins use a lot heavier graphics then WB skins.
(note, with heavy graphic I mean 3d style).
I think its the custom shape of WMP that makes it more suitable for heavy graphic skins but wouldn't it be awesome to have a little of that 3d feeling being put in a wb skin?
I know there is some 3d in WB skins, but it never really get past an 'innershadow' filter
Whats the deal with this?
Styl-X Design fingers are starting to tintel as he has this 3d wb skin idea in his head for nearly a week now... Time to dust of skinstudio

and this is flat:
For the 'flat' example, em's Meditation Windowblinds is really flat and the Rainlender calender skin Rewind_Smooth is what I would say is a skin that looks like it is 3D
Now, can someone make a 3D skin? I think a good example is Mindless Puppet's WB skin. Can someone make a 1D skin? Essorant can. He makes some awesome 1D skins. Better than 2D or 3D.
What about photo realistic skins? I would like to see more of that. I have nothing planned on my table of skins for a photo realistic skin.

| The images both at the same size.My skin has a soft polished metal feel over it, hippy's has a bit more of a plastic feel. |
To me, it looks the other way around. Hippy's looks more soft polished while yours, Stly, has a plastic look.

For users something else counts but as you might have noticed, I haven't been an active skinner on the side of free skins for the last 6-7 months or so... probably longer. This is also why I havent builded a 'reputation', and to be honest, I don't really care for a reputation. If I did, I wouldn't have opened my mouth at this time and just do what all the others do.
Only a death fish go's with the stream.
-unknown but certainly true.
I always wanted to do design work that was other then the current WB skinning companies. Ofcourse I know I am not the topskinner on the planet or something but I can see, and I hear, that I deliver a fairly good quility of work. That compared with a fairly good price is a good working formula for business. (We, 2 designers, 1 coder and me, have a waiting list of 2 weeks now... that should say enough.) But then again, to say that I probably have to be arrogant

We design, build, tool and cover motorcycle seats. We've been doing it localy for quite a while and have a excellent rep, but we have lost customers to what I call artistic differences. Which is a nice way of saying that neither myself or my partner could get along with the customer long enough to get the seat or whatever done.
This doesn't happpen often, but what does happen quite often is that we get customers that have been to a shop across town where the owner is brash, a little arrogant and some say worse. We cost more, take longer and are generally backed up a few days, but some of the customers would rather wait than put up with his Attitude.

The more people read words like arrogance in association with a person the less likely they will be to purchase that persons product....

Damn... again that arrogance.
Any admin, feel free to delete this thread, I am going to do what I said I was going to some posts ago.
See some of you guys arround.

oh and Renato/Dangeruss/Thredzs/Tech13 are in my opinion a few of the skinners who are untouchable.. meaning their reputations in the skinning community are unsurpassed.

If it is a noob, then we can just ignore them. But, when it is a skinner, who seems to be slamming everyone elses work, it makes me wonder.
