Create a Windows XP Installation CD with SP2 already in place.

Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2
- Perform a fresh installation of Windows XP with SP2 already installed.
- No need to go through lengthy Windows updates
SPECIAL NOTE: This procedure is given only to assist you with re-installation of your already licensed product and is not intended for redistribution or any other measure which violates any EULA.
Tools I used:
Alcohol 120% (To create an ISO image of your original Windows XP CD and burn it back to CD if desired)
WinIso (To create the new ISO image)
Step 1. Create an ISO image of your existing Windows XP CD using Alcohol 120%.
Step 2. Create a folder on your C drive called winxp
Step 3. Copy your entire Windows XP CD to C:\winxp
Step 4. Create a folder on your C drive called xpsp2
Step 5. Copy the service pack (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) file to C:\xpsp2
Step 6. click Start > run > type in
C:\xpsp2\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe –s:C:\winxp\
Click OK
The extraction process will begin and will then update your installation files from the CD.
Step 7. Open the ISO image you made in Step 1 with WinIso. Delete everything in the right column. Click File, Save As. Save the image as something like c:\MyWinXP-SP2.
Close WinIso.
Step 8. Open the file you just save in step 7 (C:\MyWinXP-SP2.iso) with WinIso.
Open C:\winxp and drag all files into the right hand pane of WinIso. The files will be written to the iso image, the image will be bootable as well.
Click File, Save. You can then Close WinIso.
Step 9. Burn the image back to a CD using Alcohol 120%.
You may have an alternative method of doing this, but I find this method the easiest for performing these kinds of media backups and modifications for my use. This method is in no way carved in stone. I claim no responsibility for any mistake, loss of data, or otherwise USER error. It may help somebody though.

I said it flashed a taskbar button. Obviously I have it installed, Sept1mus. Otherwise I would have gotten a ".Net not installed" error.

Only thing I can think of is try installing an ASPI layer on your drive. Check if DMA is on. If you have 2 drives switch master as slave and slave as master.
If nothing works, lauch em spyware scanners, get 5 or 6.

I think there are a couple of programs you can get that does most of the work for you.. I will dig around and see if I can find out any info.

Apparently, uninstall and re-installation of .NET framework was all it needed to make it work.

Not to sound like a total DA, but what is the purpose/benefit of creating the WinSP2 boot CD?

It means to create a WinXP install disk that's already updated with SP2. So if you re-install windows from scratch it's at the latest service pack level.
