Off topic question.. about cd writing

Hi,, is there a way to write to a Finalized CD-R? I'm writting an audio cd when a power failure came,, I still want to use that cd for my backup purposes,, is there still a way to write in it? thanks..

no.. Finalized is exactly that, final. The process of finalizing a disk marks all of the entries in the disks FAT table so that any drive the disk is ed into will recognize it as being finalized with 0 available space. I guess if you were pioneering you could probably write a program that would write to the blank areas but you'd have no way to allow drives to find that data as you couldn't add entries for the data in the FAT table.

if you use nero and uncheck finalize disc, you can add files later on, but you cant remove any, and if you fail a burn the cd is still toast

CD-R's are so cheap, why not just do another one and used the toasted one as a coaster or a shim

I lose about 1 in 10 if I use Nero. If I use XP's WMP burner, it's more like 8 in 10

'Finalized' means exactly that....the only way to burn it again is to put a match to it...

You can write to a CDRW disc after it has been finalized right? Or do you have to erase it and start over?

I just returned from school again,, hehe.. hMm.. so there's no way to write on a a toated disk? hMm.. anyway,, that's all right.. thanks again,,

Kona, if you finalize a CD-RW disk you may actually be shotting yourself in the foot.. I haven't used many RW disks lately but I believe in order to use them as an RW disk you cannot finalize it. You may able to as you said and then format it in order to write again but that's something you'd have to test out.

if u have nero, use nero's incd to make a rw jsut like a floppy, u can add, remove files etc.
and btw, look around and u'll c that its not unusual to be able to get a 50 pack of *FAST* cd-r's for free after rebate (i have a closet full of free cd-rs... and toasters as well)
