Microsoft Sucks

Wednesday, May 26, 2004 by macrobaye | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

ok, now that I've got your attention, I need some photoshop help

Photoshop 7 is acting up. It was working fine until I turned off the computer (flipped the power switch, terrible I know) and turned it back on. Now it loads up, loads all the plug-ins, begins to initialize, and then the loading screen goes away, and nothing happens. Theres no program in the task manager, and I'm left confused. Please help me! And microsoft doesn't suck.

Just uninstall and reinstall.

Or possibly try a system restore to right before this point.

loads all the plug-ins, begins to initialize,

It is possible with Photoshop 7 to have an out-of-memory error caused by too many plugins in the main plugin folder of Photoshop. You might want to rearrange your plugins into a few folders outside of the main Photoshop folder, and only keep the ones you use frequently in the main folder. You can always point to another folder for the plugins you use less frequently, and this way you won't have that huge initial load. I'm not positive that this is what is causing your problem, but I have seen it happen more than once. At any rate, hope you get it solved. Good luck.

What's next ? Someone to write 'I will honestly commit suicide' into the topic to get attention for a normal software question ?

A thread title such as 'Photoshop proggy problem' would attract actual assistance that was relevant....ok, so it wouldn't be 'controversial', but it WOULD get you the help you needed.....just food for thought....

Poor choice.

OK. RE: "Lonhome" (lol)....

First, "Longhorn" is Microsoft''s internal code name for the OS in its development stage, just as "Whistler" was the internal code name for what was eventually released as "Windows XP." (Or "Chicago" was the code name for what became Windows 95.)

Second, if Paul Thurrott''s account is accurate "Longhorn" has nothing to do with Texas: the name comes from a bar in a ski area in British Columbia (not part of the USA). So blame Canada.

"Q: What''s up with the name Longhorn?

A: As I first revealed, the Longhorn name wasn''t chosen randomly. Remember that Windows XP was code-named Whistler and the next version of Windows, at the time, was code-named Blackcomb. Both of these names come from ski areas in British Columbia, close to Microsoft''s headquarters. At the foot of Whistler Mountain, there is a saloon named Longhorn that serves the local skiing population. So if you''re ever in the area and want to take in some local color, Longhorn is a nice stop… after you''re done with Whistler."

(This is the sort of thing that happens when a thread starter is off topic in his own thread... )

Wipe the Longhorn stuff. The moderators should give these threads names. How does 'Microsoft sucks' have to do with PS?

delete the temp file that PS created upon it's last operation....

it should reset it all back to defaults and you will have to change measurement back to pixel from inches and such, also add the location of your secondary plugins folder if needs be. Also the styles, pallets, custom shapes, brushes and the rest will need to be reset to how you like it and the layout.

I'd also like to point out that you've been here long enough to know that there is a messgeboard section for Help topics.  I understand people new to the boards missing the other sections, but why most of out regulars refuse to use the proper sections in just baffling to me.

I had the same problem yesterday.  I installed another MS update this morning and it seems to be working fine now.

It's probably whatever spyware photoshop has in it that connects to tell them if you are running a warez copy or not- MS probably broke it then fixed it on the last update )

Either that or is was some weird lunar thing that happened yesterday.....

texen

It's Texan, with a capital "T"

Don't mess with Texas Go Houston Texans and don't let your babies grow up to be Cowboy fans. Yeah I know I live in New Hampshire, but I've lived in Austin and I've still got relatives in Houston and El Paso.

Hope he backed up his gradients and such first.

Any errors in the event viewer? ps hogging the cpu? patched ps up? though I tend to not like updates as 7.0.1 fubared my TGA plugins once what disaster that was.
