So if you want to wish me luck, thank you. I know I can do it.

Hey less of the age thing - I smoked for 30 years and finally gave up last August. I chew a hell of a lot of nicotine gum tho, but at least the air's cleaner and I don't have to worry about 'no smoking' areas

Damn Carolelee! I was paying that much for a carton. If you want to save some money email me and I'll give you an 800 number to call. Call them Monday, get delivery Tuesday.

Funny thing is...when I was 14 I used to bug the hell out of my mother to quit. Well...she quit and I started....now she bugs me!

big incentive to quit isn't your health. people always argue that 'we all die someday'.

"why PAY someone to kill you? DOWN with the cancer merchant!" - clerks

really.. how much freaking money do you spend on ciggerettes in a year? yeah we all die but die rich.. don't blow 20 grand a year on cancer. we've already got enough of that as it is. save your freakin money.. buy stock or starbucks.

i heard a statistic on the radio yesterday.. "air pollution in smoke-free bars is 85% cleaner a year after smoking was banned from those bars" ... no $#!^ , who figured that out?

Q: Do you smoke after sex?
A: I dunno, I never looked...

One word...Zyban (Welbutrin). It makes it SO much easier.

Good luck.

I don''t smoke cigs but I do smoke a pipe. I ocassionally inhale but not often. Take up a pipe. Enjoy tobbacco for once! I don''t see what the fuss is all about, unless you want to account for your health and wallet. Beside you have to keep your paws busy! >

I quit using alcohol and other drugs 20 years ago - One Day At A Time and with a lot of support. I only quit smoking cigarettes after I had a spontaneous pnuemothorax of the right lung - it basically collapsed one day, most likely due to the carcinogens I put in my lungs daily through smoking for approx. 20 years. I had my last puff walking into the local emergency room. A lung collapsing is not so bad, but the whole chest tube experience was absolutely the most painful thing I have ever experienced. My point is this - you can quit if you want to quit. I found that it was a little easier each day. I would not have been able to quit "slowly" - I needed to do it cold turkey. Go for it if you want to - you will have a lot of support.

Just a suggestion, kona, but give your cigarettes to your wife/girlfriend/friend/neighbor. That way you have to make more effort to get them, and you think a little bit more about whether you really need one. It helped me to cut down until I was ready to quit completely.

cut the **** already, throw the damn things away.
If you HAVE to keep smoking, just quit. If you can''t give them up, then keep smoking. Probably you don''t have a good reason to quit so you will never make it. If you DO have a good reason, ask yourself this, what is worth more, a cigarette or the thing you are quiting for?

But then again, if you can''t quit, don''t torture yourself by not smoking. Without realising you are doing this for a good reason and it has to be done, you ain''t going to make it.

Kona, have you tried the patches or gum? They do help take the edge off enough to make it bearable the first few days.
Good luck!

Zy-Ban (Wellbutrin) is very expensive Kona. And it has a pretty nasty effect if you're allergic to it. But it does work. The best way to go is Cold Turkey and tons of Jolly Ranchers
