AstonShell?

What's the deal with AstonShell? And Why doesn't WC have a section for it? I heard that WC has no AquaDock section because it's a hack of YZDock, so is Aston illegitimate, too? It can do some neat stuff, though. Will someone please tell me about it, so I can decide if I want to keep it?

Also, when will StarDock release a shell REPLACEMENT app (I know they have a few extension ones out already)?

Why should WC have a section for Aston?!
Its not like there is a lack of sites with place for Aston themes....

But the idea of an SD Shell sounds cool!
(prolly wont use it though)

It's not like there's a lack of places with a wallpaper collection, either, but WC has a collection of 5000+ walls, doesn't it? I just don't wanna traipse all over the 'net looking for Aston themes. Plus, WC has some of the best skinners I've seen on any site yet, and I'd like to see what one of these kick ass skinners llike Pixtudio can do with Aston, cause a lot of Aston themes seriously suck.

Why would we want to promote a competitor? Stupid business sense don't you think? Anyway Windowblinds is better. We don't need no friggin Aston. HA!

(Note: Any problem that hacks the Windows GUI without permission from Microsoft is illegal.)

I do not believe Microsoft would give any of these programs permission to profit from work it created. It is not smart business sense. Likewise such hacks are unstable and have crashed my system quite a few times. Especially Aston Shell

Aston and WindowBlinds do two completely different tings. if you would work for Stardock or Wincustomize i´d guess you should be aware of that. so better don´t use that "we"

now this part is plain nonsense. i am not aware of any illegal problems, maybe you mean programs? also your knowledge on these things seems to be rather limited. as you say you used Aston, could you be so kind and to elaborate which part of Aston is a hack amd why Aston would be illegal?

Also, last time I checked, Stardock doesn't own LiteStep, but they advertise that. Litestep does things that no SD program does, but Aston does many of them. I see no difference between advertising LiteStep and advertising AstonShell. Except for the fact that LiteStep is free and Aston isn't. But there are ways around that...

First of all, learn to use proper sentence structures and learn to spell so that I can understand what you mean. Words like "tings" are nonsense to me. "if you would work for Stardock"? What is that suppose to mean? In reference to the word "we", that you seem so offended by, I didn't include you, okay? So, don't tell me which words I can use and cannot use.

Second of all, I have used Aston Shell. I am perfectly aware of what it does and does not do. They are both GUI programs. Is that a general similarity that is too hard for you to understand?

Any program that modifies the windows system files without permission, I consider a hack. I consider Lite Step and Aston to be hacks. Especially since I had to restart my computer or reboot my computer for the program to work in Win98. Then, the program would crash eventually and it wouldn't really allow me to switch back to my original GUI. My system response was very sluggish with it too. I admit that I tried it a year or two ago, but I'm not going to try it again. I'm happy with a stable system using windowblinds and have no desire to see it crash again. What I would not consider a hack is a program that doesn't modify windows system files. I do not consider windowblinds a hack.

Now, lets see what you had positive to add in the conversation other than just trying to insult me.

Look guy, I could go on and on, but I will stop by saying that the next time you try to insult my intelligence, please learn to capitalize simple words like "I" as in "I'd", and learn to use capitals when you start sentences. I learned that in first grade.

Lastly, I will not continue this line of flames and insults any further, but I found it neccessary to reply to your obvious attempt to insult me. So, anything you say further to me in this thread will not be responsed to by me. So, have fun.

English is my native languagein a manner of speaking (few Americans still speak "English")but I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. English isn't most of these people's native language, so that makes ChasUGC a rude SOB.

Also, ChasUGC, THIS IS THE INTERNET!!! Nearly nobody pays attention to grammar.

That''s right, whenever anyone insults me, I sometimes do the same thing. It is called self defense. And yes, whenever someone insults me, I could''nt give a d*** what their primary language happens to be. So, I guess you are just one of the new people "Wannabe Einstein" who come on here trying to insult others too. I say get a life. If you have nothing positive to add, go somewhere where insults are accepted. Personally, I have no use for them. I will not continue in this vein. It does nothing to promote the community.

Clearly, you are new here. Wincustomize is owned by Stardock, the makers of Object Desktop. It would be similar to Aston hosting windowblind themes on Aston's website. You can always try the independent skin sites such as Skinz.org. In fact, I really wish you would.

I'm not that new. [hmph!] I know that WC is affiliated with StarDock, but, again, they have LiteStep, so why not Aston?

And one more thing:
I do have something positive to add: You are a remarkable skinner. Then again, anyone who can create a WB skin is worthy of my praise. I've checked out some o' your skins, and they're pretty damn good. Ya oughta try somehting outside of the SuperHero motif. You could make a name of yourself.

I'm going to end this game now, and I hope that someday "we" can put an end to this problem that continually manifests itself.

All I had was an opinion of Aston from my usage of it. I said "we" because, we as a community were recently asked what new programs "we" would like to see skins for on this site. No one even mentioned Aston.

Then, I get flamed and insulted for having an opinion.
I do believe that I am entitled to have an opinion.

Then, I defend myself when I am insulted numerous times.
I also believe I am entitled to defend myself.

I try to come here and help people with computer problems, and I do try to contribute to the skinning community. I appreciate the positive responses in that regard. Thank you.

Occassionally, an opinion thread is started or some other type of thread where people want to share ideas, life experiences and other sorts of things. At times, it doesn't seem that "we" can handle these sorts of threads in a mature manner, such as the Mac vs. Windows threads that always appear. I learned to stay away from those threads because of what I have learned from my experience here with them. They always end in some heated insults and flames and mostly they are locked.

I just have to try harder to stay away from these sorts of threads. I'll take the responsibility for my opinion and I'll try harder in the future to keep my opinion to myself. Because, it is not my intention to make enemies just by sharing my opinion. Life is too short.
