Ratings are a JOKE!

Monday, January 26, 2004 by PoulanZ | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I know it's been said by many before, but I'm gonna rant some more.
This rating system is so corrupt. I submitted an Icon(Adobe CS) 1/21/04 an recieved the infamous "6" then sign in today and notice that it's been downgraded to a "4", 5 days later. PLEASE!! What a joke. The system is pathetic here and everyone knows it. Get rid of the "Ratings" and let the members decide on their own whether they like it or not. Until I see a change, I refuse to submit any of my hard work and time to this caos.

Jafo, have you looked at the icons I ment in my email? I doubt the orgin from them, check the comment section of it, it may also be usefull. (and then we are not even looking at the fact that most of them are standard icons).

Styl-X Design will now shut up, knowing he is demanding an expensive thing; time

well as a temp solution in high hopes of being useful, when i see something ripped i rate it a 1. Then the chances of people seeing it are less between the time email is sent and mods remove it. If you'd like I could send about 800 emails pointing out ripped work lol. I'd send it all at once of course but you wouldn't get it till march lol

spring cleaning anyone?

I must concur that the rating system is a joke. I recently spent hours updating my Batman skin. I added toolbar icons, menu buttons and fixed, changed and improved many images. I also analyzed and fixed every error identified in Skin Studio, something that I've seen no other skin do before. For example, that great and beautiful skin by Mormegil, Christmas Time, has 77 errors identified in Skin Studio. My skin was originally a 8 rating. And after all the work I put into updating that Batman skin, the rating dropped to a 7. Therefore, I do think the rating system is a joke. Not that I really care, I wasn't even going to rant about it until I saw this thread. What's the use in being flamed, but here it is and flame on if you must. That said, I do believe the rating system serves a good purpose. It just seems that some people abuse it or use it maliciously.

Chas...one problem is that each time a skin is updated it attracts more attention and therefore usually more ratings....now if the skin was originally OK and had a '8'...then you made it brilliantly perfect but someone was not overly thrilled and gave it a '4' then though it had 'improved' as a skin the rating would now be a '6'.

It happens....and can be annoying, but generally the more times a skin is rated the more 'accurate' the median becomes...

I do my homework before I open my mouth and risk making myself look like a fool. I'm not directing anything at you, trying to flame you, and or otherwise trying to just be an [explitive deleted].

That was a personal attack Horizon..Blah
Not submitting to this site, or withdrawing work from this site doesn't make me a lesser artist, nor does it make me a fool or an explitive deleted.
And it is not "fine arts" what I do.

What I wanted to point out is that constructive criticism together with a low mark is a far better way than giving low ratings only.
Read my earlier posts in this thread please.

I am getting tired of being harassed when I do open my mouth here, and being judged on what is submitted to the WC library.

Jacob....when people may not know you they are likely to seek info such as checking submitted works, etc and will likely jump to [incorrect] conclusions.

It's difficult maintaining an online personna that remains consistent to all so that assumptions are not jumped-to...

BTW....'expletive', not 'explicitly'....Spell checker

Cool, those "update Thread" buttons.
It's "Edit Thread", it's "Edit Thread"...
And I stand corrected: "expletive"

Ok this IS in english, plain english at that. I didn't see any work done by you on this site, and I did see work that is under the name "lecrayon" at another site featuring "fine art" (i.e. paintings, drawings). So I "wrongly" assumed that was your work on that link. Sorry for the critical error of assuming those works were yours. With the fact that I have no idea what it is you do since I've seen none of your work, lets get back to the personal attack shall we?

When I said "I do my homework before I open my mouth and risk making myself look like a fool." It means exactly that, "I" means "I", I doesn't mean you, nor does it refer to "you", you is not a synonym of I, contains none of the same letters, is pronounced differently, and has a very different meaning. "I" didn't say anything about "you" being less of an artist than "you" stated. Nor did "I" call "you" a fool, or an [expletive deleted]. Please note that the word "I" is being used in that sentence, not "you."

Your constructive critism is a good idea, but how many people here can really give out useful critiques instead of just comments.
Most of the people here do not understand the difference between "what they like" and "what works"

wow, im dizzy.

i also think that when a person rates, they should be required to put a comment (that is appropriate) along with the rating...

I think when people rate they should do it on triplicate with a photo id and their birth certificate. ratings are meant to be anonymous, no? at least to everybody but the people in charge. unless you feel that you need to comment on the skin, I really see no reason to force and comment with a rating. If anything that would discourage ratings, something there is already to few of.
