Question for those who know about drinking problems

My question is this: Is it posssible to distroy your Liver by drinking to much?
For example: A guy I am working with seems to have glassy eyes most of the time and almost always seems to have an odor.
Now this odor isn't of liquir but it seems it is of just a special kind of funk. Not under arm but some sort of... I don't know. Funk.
Can it be possible that this person can possibly be drinking in order to stay alive because his Liver is use to it?
Help guys!!!

Yes...It's called "cirrhosis of the liver"

he might have another problem. I forgot what its called, but some people's body can't process glucose (I think thats it) right and some strange smell is always eminating from their body. Just because someone smells doesn't mean they drink, they might just need to take a shower.
Now the glassy eyes. I don't know what that means. It could be he is abusing another substance.

I was thinking I was wrong about the glassy eyes and the odor he has. It not a funk of the arm pits but more of a... I don't know.... wierd odor.
I would ask him but it just so happens that he is my boss.
I just think something wrong with him. I won't bother me so much if I was working a regular job but it not a regular job. (Security)

Just a thought, if he's only your supervisor, why not discuss it with his immediate boss. Specially if it is impacting your desire to work there. If he's someone you're concerned about, friend, etc., I think you should discuss it with him.

well, I bearly know the guy so I don't think I can say anything.
The company has other sites so I think I should just ask for a transfer.

Liver stores fat inside it each time a person drinks, evenally killing liver ( and the person with that liver ) when normally it never stores fat inside it.

I am basically under this guy who, by the way, happened to freeze the Fire panel because instead of pressing the proper buttons, he push others
He has the experience to to the job but apparently does not apply it. Also I think he was drunk at the time when he pressed the wrong buttons to make a announcement to the people in the building.
Since he pressed the wrong buttons, the announcement was not made... there were children in the biulding... and a baby.

drinking in fact is one of the main causes of liver disease and death related to it, Hepatitis C being the main one.
The liver provides many different chemicals used in the function of various internal organs such as the Kidneys, Spleen, Bile-duct, Bowel, Brain and complete digestion tract. Which can lead to failure of these in part or in whole.
Fibrosis of the Liver will lead to Cirrhosis death if left unchecked and can cause Cancer of the Liver which leads to death or transplant.
Acidic acid crystallizes in the joints where it settles and cause constant joint pain, you feel run down to the point that you wish you would just die and get it over with.
Yet because of the chemical imbalances in your body your mind is constantly racing when not totally numbed. Add any previous injuries to bones, joints or soft tissues and you just pile more pain on to of it all...
Something else about the liver is it can heal itself if given the chance, they can take a damaged liver and splice part of a healthy liver from a donor to it and if not rejected it will heal.
For Hepatitis C there is a treatment which is now being seen as a possible cure in a large percent of the people who are put on it. The process for gaining access to it is kind of arduous with the blood testing, re-testing, liver biopsy(s) and so forth, but at least there is now a real option of good health available to those with it...
This person you know, and everyone else who drinks to much really should learn about just how much drinking taxes the liver and the rest of the body. Cirrhosis leading to total liver failure, or to Liver Cancer which ends at the same point will in fact kill almost every time and they are not transplanting Livers into people who are considered high risk returns for transplant or failure because of their own actions (continued drinking)...

Diabetics can actually give off an odor like they have been drinking when their sugar levels are all out of wack also....
It will also affect the eyes, balance and even speech at some point.
Is he diabetic or do you know for a fact that it is that he is drinking?

Yes, do you in fact know that he is a drinker? Another problem that can give the symptons you are decribing is kidney failure. People with end stage kidney disease emit a musty/ urine-like oder due to the urine crystalls seeping thru the skin. (These crystals are normally filtered thru the kidney) Glassy/sheen-like eyes can also go along with kidney failure AND liver failure. If he is in fact a steady alcohol drinker, it will surely (if it alreasy hasn't) take its toll on his liver. As mentioned by IPlural, diabetics can emit an oder, but that oder is mainly smelled at the mouth area, and it's a "fruity" oder. A tell tale clue for kidney failure is yellowing of the white part of the eyes. Is this present. If it is, he has a failing liver due to either drinking or contracted hepatitis. In any case, sounds like the guy has a problem, and if you don't see any evidence of treatment, then he's in denial.

Well, I smelled his drink of "cranberry juice" sitting on the desk after many other guards basically told me he drinks.
After what you said IPlural, it is possible that he has diabetes. He slurs his speech (piticullary on Sundays) and his eye are wet. One time I thought he was upset because of what happened at the fire panel a few day before when he started running for a set of keys that were in the fire panel.
My Mom says he is someone 'baby' and he is going to stay so I better be careful about who I talk to about it.
I'll just ask for a transfer.

yeah, it affects the kidneys and other ograns, the liver really is one of the keys to the internal workings of the human body, though many people do not really know it.
the only reason I ever learned anything about it is because of some medical problems otherwise my mind would be a blank on the subject...
