ToeJoe....'copying DVDs from the Rental Store'.....If I were you I would not be publicising that.  You are admitting to theft of copyright which attracts criminal penalty.

You may even find your fancy new computer confiscated.

Just a thought to be wary of...

power saving, runs 1.6 plugged in and as the battery charge diminishes the CPU speed drops, 899mhtz is the lowest I've seen it.

So I have the power saving on the the system turned off and then turn off internal hardware I do not use all the time, such as the IR Network, Bluetooth, Modem/Fax/Intel Pro 10/100 which helps offset the drain a bit. With it setup like this I can run it full tilt for 1.5 - 2 hours on a full charge, depending on which main battery I have in and if I do not have one of my other hard drives, the DVD/CDRW or one of the extra batteries in the smartbay.

i mean, how good is the performance as it gradually slows down? is it an MS Office machine or can you get away with some photoshop or train-ride dvd watching?

ah heck, I've responded three times now and each time I hit submit it wipes the freaking thing out and I get an error -0-...

It works great as I have the power features turned off for the CPU almost always and it has 1 gig of ram with an ATI video...

the dell 8600 Inspiron with the ATI Mobility Pro 128 meg DDR upgrade, heck all the upgrades actually, looks like a nice system and it is a wide screen to boot...

if you got money just floating around this is about the best.

Travis, I'm thinking I may just have to buy myself one of the laptops at http://www.go-l.com. I was pricing systems at DELL and the comparable Inspiron 8600 with all the goodies I want costs about the same but the go-l system is much nicer looking. I have an e-mail into their sales people with some questions I have but if everything works out I think my tax return has been spent (and then some!)!!

Now those are some nice looking systems and they have Guts too!

I really like that Hollywood Gold Pro 17 wide screen...

Thank you for the link and FYI, f0r3

im tired of lugging around my 10 pound laptop already. i'm glad pc makers finally woke up to their available technology and began making light, thin pcs. sony's got a 12" machine thats packed with power. fun stuff is happening. anyone wunna buy my HP? i'll give you a good price on it so i can get smoething lighter.

What are you describing as a waste of money?

Well, personally, I don't like Dells. Secondly, and to clarify, it's not as much a waste of money as it is too much to pay for something like that. $5,000+ is a hell of a lot to pay for a PC. Especially a Dell, who sells 3.2GHZ P4s for like $700 w/ craptastic monitor.

Now if I had $5,000, I would get a Dual 2GHZ G5 with 4GB of RAM, 500GB of HD Space for vid editing, an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 1GHZ FSB, shite load of software, Apple 20in flat panel display....and even a 40GB ipod to go with it.... hell yea

please DO NOT use this as an excuse to start a flame war! I'm not bashing PCs, so don't bash macs!
