"Wonder why we haven't built a nuclear-fuel driven spaceship yet? "

Actually, until we decided to back out of the nuclear treaty, we couldn't. It had a section forbidding any nuclear explosion/reaction outside the earth's atmosphere. Now that we have backed out of it, we can make them all we like. There are a lot of designs out there. I remember reading about them in Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" when I was about 12.

And why are we going to the moon again?

Well, I bet Bush has a good reason....

AKA Daddy put 500 million into it when he was prez and nothing happened...finishing daddy's business...again...

another reason, is that ever since dubya read "Goodnight Moon" (can he read in the first place?) he thought it would be "super cool" to live there...

Essencay: did they build a cloaking device for the moon station too? Cuz i think someone would have spotted it by now

was wondering the same thing, haha. how come no one can see it?

then again.. how come no one can see our moon landing site up there? not that i don't believe we landed on the moon.. but.. well??

What's the point? If you got them to take a photo with Hubble which let's face it could probably pick up the LEM serial No, the hoaxers would all cry "but it was faked with Photoshop" or similar... >

You can't win.

They'll claim the LEM image is painted on the 'scope lens (OK, OK mirror) or somesuch!

Besides, even if you could convince them to look in person you'd have to line up all the skeptics to see for themselves ("you can't believe something someone told you")

we've already developed alternate fuels for cars. one such i know of is derived from corn oil. when you need more fuel, you grow more corn. its being fought, of course, by the oil industry. if politics werent so wrapped up in oil, these alternate ideas might be gaining some steam. lukily car manufacturers ARE proceeding with a government plan to develope cars that get 75mpg by 2010 or something like that. Hybrid cars, available now, get very high milage and electric cars..well, there you go. they are out there. people just have to want to use them.

---

you can put that up on the shelf with rumors that an oil collation bought the plans for an engine that runs on water, to keep their industry alive. or that could be something the democrats made up

You could drive your car and fry chicken all at the same time. Maybe a deep fryer will be the new car accessory...

A strong space program benefits the contry more than most people realize.......... every dollar spent on the Apollo program has been returned 7 to 1, in tax revenues paid on products developed and marketed for civilian use. Things such as;

Ski boots
Fire Fighters equipment
Cordless power tools
Sat TV
A lot of our Medical imaging technology is a direct result of NASA research
The Joy Sticks you use on your video game
This goes on, and on..................

People also don't seem to realize that NASA doesn't build anything, NASA hires civilian companies to produce what it needs. These companies often hire other companies to build the tools they need. (this creates jobs)

just look what china's new space program has done for their country's morale. the earth has for the most part been conquered and explored. people are sitting around idly getting bored and declaring war on each other.

the curiousity that fires people up in exploring a vastly unknown medium creates jobs, patriotism, enthusiasm, and begins to wake people up. what if we discovered life on anothe planet? i bet it'd be like grabbing 7 billion people and shaking sense into them. it'd make em wake up and start to treat each other a little better.

/end soapbox.

kongit is thinking about trying to go into aerospace engineering. having the space program back up and thriving will help him enormously. otherwise he hopes to make cars or ships.
