so i'm sitting here quietly, rockin' out to Radiohead and doing a pretty intense graphic for our website. its got lots of layers, its got lots of masking, its got carefully chosen colors and it took me all morning to get together. i take a breather, stretch myself out - and kick the button on the power strip under my desk. OOoo.. 'puters off.
"save early" they said. "save often" they said.
sigh.

)...but you've just got to not think about it, and go back to the project in a few days or so...And remember to save more often!!!

thats why i like my laptop, I can't kick out power, but I could knock out the battery, but I've never done that before. What I do that makes me very mad and sad is closing a program without saving and in my haste just click all the dialgues that pop up telling me save. I always slam my head on my desk after that.

All I got for a reply was, sorry, wrong switch. >
Now the breakers are labled. It seems like we always learn to do it right after we suffer from doing it wrong. Guess if I had a UPS, it wouldn't have been such a big deal, maybe next time...

You read my mind... This is exactly why I have every machine I use on a UPS!!
DesignCaddy I've been exactly where you are before except I lost several hours worth of code changes!! Which is probably the reason Ctrl+S is my favorite key combination ever!
Hope you are able to re-create what you've lost!

)so I finally pushed my chair back and said "NOW". He jumps up and just as he lunges I notice he has the power supply cord for the CPU running across his chest! "NO" "STAY" my mind screamed, but before my words reached my mouth I'll damned if he didn't listen the first time when I said "NOW" because he shot out of there and my screen went blank...
I've now got a larger desk with room for him and I am working on drilling, plumbing and running power so it looks better when you walk into the office and there are not any cables or wires for Boomer to snag

The obvious drawback is if you dont keep tabs on your credit...and if you don't keep your key in a particular place for when it's suddenly pitch black...and there aren't any shops open...

being surprised by instant and utter darkness when you're right in the middle of something highly important/fun/going-to-be-tedious-to-do-over and having to grope around in said pitch blackness looking for a tiny piece of plastic, which you are SURE you put back in that drawer where you nearly always put it except this time apparently you put it somewhere else...is uncool

Not sure I would opt for something like that, but then again, I can see the merits of it.
Our power went off for about 6 hours not long ago, and was the first time since I started computing. I was surprised by how much I missed not being able to go online, it was almost dreadful.
