What's with this approval thing???!!
Tuesday, December 30, 2003 by Spydragon | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I really dont understand this approval thing! I meeen first are the people of WC all knowing to the point they know all the stuff that is on the net to be able to know if it was original work!
I say the easiest way is to just let people upload their work and then if someone notices policy infrigement they just push a button to report it!
I started submitting a while ago into wincustomize and once I submited some stuff I made about the Manga Akira, after it got rejected for whatever not being my work reason (although it was my work!) I was so pissed I deleted all my submissions except one (because it was being downloaded by friends) and until now I submitted nothing new...
I allways thought it was not enough to subscribe and just download stuff, it is good to give some of one work too, but this is becoming really anoying!
So I say stop this approval thing! Let the people here be responsible adults!

That one posted 3 days ago bypassed moderation 3 days ago, subsequebtly withdrawn and was approved 2 days ago.
T-Man has 'fixed' the error where-by some works slipped through [only to be unrated and therefore invisible to most people].
Some members have reached a position where they do bypass moderation....a position of trust which is earned and is not a 'right'.
Generally, considering the questionable content many attempt to upload/submit, this situation [moderation] will not be changing...
Sites with zero levels of moderation tend to be foar more rife with 'dubious content' than is the case here at Wincustomize.com...

| Well, anyway I guess you guys have your reasons but I still think that there is some stuff being denied unfairly. |
What you see as 'fair' will not be 'fair' in anothers eyes and vice-versa...

I'm less persuaded by the idea of approval being used as a censorship aid for the moral minority. But that's me, I've never been of the mind that children should be shielded from life, just supported when it effects them negatively.
Additionaly, I believe approval should be used to filter out complete rubbish. However, the criteria should be set fairly low to give aspiring skinners/coders a chance to get their work seen and criticized constructively.
The big problem I have is with the lack of a reply if the work is denied for some reason. A polite email should be sent, it should give a very brief description of why the work is unnacceptable and there should be a link to a page that gives a general guide to what's allowed and why submissions are sometimes denied.
It's not good enough to say that this results in people getting nasty emails. So what? I'd hope all the admins are adults and know how to use their delete key, followed by blocking the email address and banning the offender from WC. If it's really such a problem use a centralized submissions address and keep your admin addresses out of it.
I should say that I've not yet submitted anything, but hope to soon.
regards, Jerry

Ah.....Band-aids for the molested child. Yes, that's going to work.
Responsible adults protect their children before the event, not after.
JerryHat...If you are over 21 perhaps I can send you some of the more 'choice' emails to practise your 'delete' skills on.
The admins ARE adults.....and they are all also Volunteers who do not deserve what passes for 'complaint' in those emails.
I personally have thick skin but my blood would boil at the thought that those Admins who happen also to be women would be on the receiving end of some of what I've had. For me, it comes with the territory, for my fellow admins I'd prefer it didn't happen to any of them.
That is all....
