Cell Phone Thoughts

Monday, December 29, 2003 by kona0197 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Help me decide. I would like a color display model but maybe something else is better for me?

Your thoughts on a good choice and why?

I guess after that we can flame cell phones!

Just thoughts Kona, but why bother with a color display?

If you are using it solely for phone calls...who cares if it has a color display?

I have a Seimens SL45 (no color) which works just fine for what I want it for. I think phones that have the ability to let you play games are a bit 'gimmicky' and way overpriced.

Personally, I hate the damned things... period! But I have to carry one for work.

Well it seems that WC is back in order.

I would like the color models for the games as well as email and web applications.

Wife and I might be homeless soon and I need to keep in touch with work if I hope to keep my job.

Thanks for your input.

If you are going to be homeless soon, then it might be wiser to just get a cheaper cell phone with fewer features. You should try to save your money and not spend it on things you don't need. Your needs are more important through tough financial times.

Simple, get the least expensive phone you can that has all the features you *need*. It's one thing to have a nice toy if you can afford it, but when you get right down to it, as a phone, they all pretty much do the same thing.

The other thing to consider is the service plan. Figure out how much usage you plan to put on the phone, and get the plan that is just above that (in other words, get the least expensive plan that you won't go over minutes on).

I have ATT wireless and a Motorola T721 phone ($50 after instant rebate). I think it will do all the things that you are looking for.

BTW....sorry to hear about your situation and also thanks for entering a system in the challenge

That sounds awful. The economy is just so bad, I wish you the best of luck. You should just go with the cheapest phone possible in your situation. Hell, I have an old Startac (not color) that works pretty good, just needs a new battery that I don't need and would just give to anyone, as long as it doesn't cost me to ship it.

The new phones come with so many useless bells and whistles. I don't need text messaging or web browsing or taking pics, but that is becoming standard on most phones.

Well here is the low down.

Our Landloed is selling our apartment out from underneath us. It has been stated we would only have 2 weeks to a month notice to move out. We would only get our $150 dollar pet deposit back, nothing more.

When we moved in here it was a result of my wife getting her $3000 dollar back pay from Social Security Benefits. She is still on SSD and makes $710 a month. However I am down to working only 2 days a wekk due to my hotel is slow this time of year.

So we have to save up about $2000 dollars for deposists, u haul truck, gas etc to move. It is hard to save when we have 5 or 6 bills to take care of in the mean time. We are so poor right now we have not even got to see Return Of The King yet.

So I was planning to sell my Dell on ebay for $275 and then get a elcheapo laptop to keep up on email since we have high speed access at work and getting a phone to keep in touch with everyone else.

We will be getting rid of 4 animals, The border collie, cat, and 2 snakes. And then put everything in storage again.

needless to say

**sigh**

I just got a Samsung X426 from ATT Wireless. It's almost jewelry-like. It's got a gorgeous color screen, tiny flip-phone, but with GREAT visibility for those of us with middle-age presbyopia, web connectivity, a few games, some really nice animated standby screens, nice ring tones, and of course it even works like a phone. http://www.attwireless.com/personal/products/phonedetails.jhtml?id=1000006&titleNumber=1
I've had it for three days, and I'm happy. Only $50, too, with their rebate offer. If ya don't like it, they accept returns, as do most companies.
