Object Dock new 'skins' (Rant)

Saturday, December 13, 2003 by c242 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I think it is about time to do the same as with walls, speak to take new submissions to the OD section out of the Newest Additions box... It becomes annoying... People, please do packs and don't upload every single icon as a seperate task. My rant for the weekend.

Yeah, It's a bit frustrating to see 60hrs of WB skinning work knocked off the list in seconds by a few 5 minute OD icons.

agreed, at the time of posting there are 17 OD 'skins' out of 20 newest additions, the vast majority of which are single icons...

Even tho I am An OD icon maker,I have to agree...BUT I think they are planning to add some newest additions list soon.I would love that.

.Me,I would put walls ,logons, bootscreens in one list.
.WB,DX,media players in another
.Icon Packages, cursors and OD icons in another

something like that

.I uploaded a WMP skin that took at least 30 hrs and there were so many additions(primarily OD icons and bootscreens)that it hit the list near the bottom and disappeared within hours.

you still get the problem of icon packages (many hours of work) competing with single OD icon uploads...or spam as it is otherwise known

edit: out of my last 5 or 6 uploads I haven't seen any of them in the newest additions list due to having to go shopping, walking the dog, making a cup of tea, etc

True...but with split list, things would stay up muchlonger.IP could always go in a different list.Even 2 list would be a huge improvement...Major works in 1 and 'fluff' in another.(not knocking the fluff, some of my OD icons took a long time to make...especially the animated ones and a soon to be uploaded calendar)

I agree with this too

I've had at least 5 submissions miss the list completely...some not even showing in the newest 50.Its due mostly to this sites popularity, they get lots of submissions.Sometimes things just sit in the Q so long that the upload date is old,so they post lower in the list.

yeah, IconPackager should go in with WindowBlinds, being reasonably equivalent timewise...

it will be a tricky issue to resolve to everyone's satisfaction, if not impossible

[Start of rant]
I was about to make a post about it.
People have taken upon the annoying habit of uploading individual images instead of packing them.
Seriously, what is the need of uploading 20 individual images of various PC games and flood not only the Newest Addition list, but the entire OD library as well. Some really good sets get pushed so far down that you have to browse thru 4-5 pages before you get them. This is not to mention some Icons that for the life of me have no clue of to what they are or what application they are used for.
I think admins should look into this before they approve these images.
I’m connected thru cable modem and its a hustle to browse thru a lot of these (somewhat ugly) images to get to something worth downloading, so I can imagine how frustrating it might be for someone connecting thru dial-up. >

If I'm not mistaken, it was requested at one time for authors to upload OD themes or packs rather than individual icons. There was the suggestion that individual icons may not be accepted. Packs would definitely be a lot more 'list' friendly.

That is exactly how it should be Stephen. Also QUALITY over QUANTITY is the way to go.

One mans trash is anothers treasure.

ANYWAYS, If you all notice, all my OD icon ARE packs with the exception of one. I did this on purpose.

I guess others are not doing packs.

I agree completly, but find it kinda funny that no one complained when a certain popular author was doing this a while back..........  Flooding the section with single uploads instead of packs is a sneaky way for some people to garner more downloads.
