A good question I've never thought of..
I have many aquaintances at DA that use huge programs to do their artwork and they suggest I use them to, but I can't do squat and what little bit I do, MSPaint and Irfanview can take care of..
I use irfanview to crop/resize images, sharpen/blur, convert, and downgrade color quality (16 color bootskins, wee!) and I use MSPaint to edit imperfections in the artwork. No need for Photoshop here, not yet anyways.
So, how many of you actually have a large program with all the bells and whistles but only use it to resize images, crop images, or just use it to convert images? and who actually uses all the bells in whistles in the program if they "must" have it? Who uses various tiny programs that do what they need done and that's it?

I used v5 in Vo-Tech class and could do some half-ass editing of images and stuff, and at home, I used a trial version of v6 and v7. However, when I tryed v8, they had moved everything around and I had no idea where the hell anything was, so I gave up. I should give it another chance though since I'm in a bit better health now.
Edit: I failed to mention that I was referring to Paint Shop Pro, not PhotoShop. Oh woe to me.

The trick is to concentrate on one proggy and become competent with it.....no 'bells and whistles' proggy can really take the place of talent, practise, etc...
Usually the weakest link in an image's creation is the person pushing the buttons.
We still get those Palm treed, island sunsets courtesy of Bryce and a cat walking across a keyboard....

lol, and let's not forget the infamous "exploding glass" wallpapers. Though they may be purdy, they're certainly abundant and nothing "fancy" by todays standards.

I only use Photoshop to apply lens-flare filters....as PS does them so well....
Seriously, most anyone will [almost] ever need is Paintshop Pro.....been using that since Win 3.1...
