Rating problem

Sunday, November 30, 2003 by Greg Tousensemble | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

For example , one of my objectbar ( New Longhorn https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=323 ) theme has been updated with more features ( look the description ) . But , the rating is still the same number 2 .. And i don't no why it has it, but nobody can see my theme with this number and i think, when i update a skin, the rating will be update too..

The rating is set by viewers and users, if they don't rate it may not have a larger rating, it is not rated by updating.

I know but when you update your skin, you upgrate it and the rate is the same whereas the theme or the skin isnét the same so i don't understand why rating isn't reset when we update themes and skins.

Just because you updated your skin (etc) does not mean an Upgraded Rating, that remains the same until someone like me or any other user rates the skin higher

Yeah, but when you upgrate your skin , it's very unjust to have a rate like 1 or 2 :/ because nobody view, download it,try it so nobody rate your skin too..

or if anybody want, you can go here https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=323 , rate the skin ( 8 or 9 or 10 ) to have a rate like 5 or 6 because this rate kill my hard work

Maybe you should have uploaded it as new instead of an update. I've given it a fair rating as it is now. I can't comment on earlier ratings as I've not seen the original version.

No-one should be giving high ratings as 'compensation' All ratings should be fair and just and awarded on merit and for no other reason.

Fuzzy is correct, just because you spent time and gave it a lot of hard work, does not mean you should automatically get a high rating, users rate on what they think and see, not on how hard you worked, sorry but that's the way it is.

If a user does not like the skin, he/she may not rate it at all.

I seen people spend over a month on a blind and all it got was 3's and 4's. Its not the time spent but how it works and looks and what the user thinks its worth.

yeah i know but i think my work isn't bad and i upgrate it to look better and the rate is the same :/ ... so i think it's really unjust. Why have i the same rate whereas the skin/theme is better than the previous version ? If you want to view the previsous version, go here : https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=325 and the new version go here : https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=323

The Nounours....updating a skin will not automatically or magically alter the public rating....it requires the public to do that.

Given time it will be noticed and/or assessed/graded to something akin to its value...

I can see this both ways...It would be nice if your rating was reset when you updated a piece, but on the other hand, not resetting is an encouragement to only upload a piece in its best form.Instead of before they are ready for primetime.

IRB.....resetting to some default would both negate/ignore the prior posted opinions, and would become an incentive to people to abuse [or try to abuse] the updating system to troll for ratings...

In this case, I removed 2 ratings fro mwhen it first came out. That brought it up to a 5.

neophil78 )> lol

Frogboy )> thank you

I know if the rate is reset when updating a theme, people abuse :/ but i don't understand when the rate is 2 why the skin/theme isn't showed i can see when i'm not logged this skin https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=311 ( rate 2, only 70 downloads ) whereas i can this other ( https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=4&SkinID=310 rate 3, 271 downloads ( same theme in a different position )). Is there an explication to can't view a skin when it's rate is 1 or 2 ?

Sure is. In your profile settings, there is a filter , "Show skins with this rating or higher", that you can set. Yours must be set to see skins above a rating of 2.

i think this option is unjust :/ because i don't check it but visitor or others don't see the theme and if one rate 1 the skin ( because he hates it or because he thinks it's too good ) , nobody can view it
