Tweaking your GHz!

Sunday, November 23, 2003 by ScoobyWRX STi 04 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I was on the phone Dell tech service a few days ago. And we were casually talking about PC stuff. He then released to me that my 1.6GHz laptop, that I was saying I wished was faster, that I could tweak it to a 2.4GHz. Does anyone know how to do this? Mine is currently only at 1.56GHz. and I would love to get it up to that 2.4 mark!

Thanks

You aren't still talking laptops are you? Even on a desktop you gotta worry about heat when you overclock. There are different ways to do it depending on the hardware. Sometimes you have to adjust hardware, sometimes not. Google it and try at your own risk.

"I will put anything I find here that works!"

What exactly does that mean? Just understand that you can be unlucky even slightly overclocking something. I would never, ever overclock a laptop.

overclocking a lap top is about as stupid as putting a turbo in a vw van...

well then I may wait till I decide to get a new laptop. I'll clock it then, if it gets to where I want it, I will keep it, or Ill just get the new one

Ummm, not sure if thats possible, especially on a laptop. #1: cooling and #2 hardware. Some motherboards and memory are better for overclocking.

I would like to know how to overclock my PC. I'd built it myself. (2GHz) AMD Athlon XP 2400, IWILL 723 <~~some model number.

You should be very careful when overclocking, as you can cause damage. IF you can boot into Windows that doesn't necessarily mean your system is stable. You should be able to do it through BIOS or with older mothboards you have to change the jumpers.

If you're interested, I would suggest you read up on it first and know what you're doing. Go here for everything you need to know and more: http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/

I have friends who seem addicted to over-clocking. The amount of money they spend on better heat-sinks, hi-powered fans, better system cases, even water-cooling, not to mention replacement cpus, just to get an extra 8 frames per second in their favourite game always makes me think "doh!"

these are usually ppl who were getting 150 frames per second in the first place, viewed on a monitor that only refreshes 85 times per second by eyes that "refresh" a good deal slower than that...
