Here's what ya do
DOWNLOAD the bootskin from the Library, save it somewhere. (make mental note of where you saved it)
Open the Bootskin program. Click file, then import from file. Navigate to where you saved the stein.bootskin file and select it. Then click open.
The unwitting genius with the fantastic hair will now be present in your list of bootskins.

Do this:
Create a new folder in the skins folder where Bootskins is installed (probably C:\Program Files\Stardock\Wincustomize\BootSkins). Name the new folder the same as the skin you've downloaded. Open the bootskin file with winzip, extract the files inside to the folder you just created. Start Bootskins and you should see the new skin.

Is it possible that SP1 is needed? I had it on my system when it first came out and it caused a major conflict with some programs and I offed the damn thing. Could this be the issue?
You skinners are great artists but this is proving to be a major headache.Any other suggestions I will gladly attempt.

So, if I understand, you can import the skins and see them in the list of skins in BootSkin just fine. But when you click on a skin and then click the 'apply' button, that's when you get the 'corrupt' message? If not, when exactly do you get the message? Starting the computer after sucessfully applying a new skin?
What happens after that? Does the skin you selected have 'Active' after the title?
Or does the Default System Boot Screen still have 'Active' after it?
It would really help us to have better details about what is happening and when. 'It doesn't work' or 'It's corrupt' isn't very specific.

I was able to follow the advice above and rename the download as .zip and use winzip to unpack and then manually move into a folder. It would be useful if bootskin could work with the files direct. I am running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 1.

I actually cannot import the skins, I get the corrupt error. I changed them to zip files and extracted. This however is not the main concern.
When I apply a new skin, it says, this will be used during the next boot... shows as (Active)
However when I reboot, my splash screen is now a white background, with black text for windowsXP, the microsoft flag, and no status bar moving across...
I tried loading all the skins included with the program as well, and restarting, same issue.
I have thus restored back to the default splash and everything is ok...
I just can't seem to use the program...
Windows XP Home - SP1 + updates...

1) download the file, double click to install, "corrupt file".
2) download the file, re-name file as .zip, double click to install, "corrupt file".
3) download file, re-name as a .zip file, place in the Bootskins file, double click to install, "corrupt file".
4) download file, re-name as a .zip file, moved into a new folder named as same, double click, "corrupt file".
5) same as above, open the Bootskins program, import the file' "corrupt file.
Our company IT people tried and they tried several different ways also, got "corrupt" file also (they tried what has been suggested on all the message boards too).
Sounds like the program still has some bugs to be worked out as not everyone has their systems set up the same. I will keep trying as the program does look like a good one (yes, I am a glutton for punishment, but I refuse to give up).Any other suggestions as I am sure I am not alone in this mess.

That's the first I've heard of that particular problem, paulhaskew. I'm afraid I've run out of ideas. Sorry. Hopefully the next versions will sort out some of the bugs. BTW - I know what you mean about the 10 month old. My 4 year old is almost as bad!

You may really have a corrupt file or a problem with your computer, since you are getting 'corrupt file' when doubleclicking a zip file (#'s 2,3,4). That should only involve Winzip. Bootskins doesn't even come into the picture in that scenario (All you're doing is opening a zip file). If other zip files open ok with Winzip, then the file you downloaded is bad.
