| #1 by Kona0197 - 10/28/2003 12:29:06 AM I think I heard it has some spyware in the program. But I could be wrong. As always, advice is always a good thing before dipping your feet in a new program. I applaud you! |
When you first install incredimail, you should read the installation files. It does say there that the program does send information to Incredimail, intended to help them tailor offers and options based on the type of emails you send. ....all harmless enough, but to me, that is still sending personal info to a third party. Smacks a little of Microsoft's tactics, but if you've nothing to hide... don't worry.
I used it for a little while, but outlook express is also quite adaptable, whereby you can include animated gif images, use backgrounds, embed sound files in the form of .wav and .midi etc, and still attach any other file you want to send with your email.
As I said.... if you dont care about the collected info, then go for it!

IncrediMail uses information such as IncrediMail content statistics in order to present users with the "Most Popular" lists in the IncrediMail Online Gallery. That way we can meet user preferences, and continuously enhance the IncrediMail product. This is the only kind of non-personally identifiable information used by IncrediMail.
However I found this review:
this is a great program with great features and it is easy to use. two things to point out though!it has some spyware in it which is very easy to get rid of. it also is quite unstable and sometimes crashes my computer and mine is a windows xp pentium 4 2.40ghz.
to get rid of the spyware all you need to do is fully exit incredimail and make sure it is all shut down. then go to "c:\program files\incredimail\bin. then find imhook.dll and delete it. if you don't trust me make a back up of the file first.
oh yes, one more thing, if you have any probs with the program please don't use tech support because they don't listen to you and they e-mail back with the most stupid solutions. alot of the time they don't e-mail back at all.

Especially people connecting through a modem!
And tech geeks, as all of the ones I know do not read HTML emails, for security (virus) reasons.

It's a fun email program. Kids & adults will have with Incredimail. My kids will enjoy it when they get older.

What the heck?? Who the heck wrote that article, Paxx? Aside from the frightening lack of capitalization, since when does system -speed- have anything to do with the stability of a program? ^.^ Heh. Sorry, I just found that rather amusing.

| Outlook Express is a good email client, yet there are zillions of viruses that target it specifically, |
But not if you use it in conjunction with mailwasher (free proggy)(donation if u want)
I always check my mail with wailwasher first, bounce the spam, then open outlook express.
