problem with ATI graphics card

well, i got my brand new laptop with ATI mobility radeon 9000. there is a problem.
when i play a game, sometimes the computer hangs up. i am not able to continur and i have to shut down the system. what is the problem?
these are my system specs:
P4 2.8 GHZ,
256 MB DDR SDRAM
30GB ultra ata/100 hdd
DVD,CDRW
15'' XGA TFT lCD.
Windows XP.
Acer Aspire 1604LC...

over heating? and memory leaks? well, my processor doesnt get too hot!

and maybe i should try installing direct x 9...it might help. but i am on a 56K!
, so, downloading might give me a nightmare!

?? :> it comes as standard with the laptop. its not possible to change it
they can only 'increase' it to 512!!!
