P4 vs AMD vs G5 vs ?

Thursday, July 10, 2003 by kona0197 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I thought it is time for another one of my useless vs threads so here we go...

What processor do you use?
Why do you like it?
What would you like to have?

Please lets not put people down for what they use or like.

personally I love AMD!

AMD, they keep my room warm on those cold winter nights

voo wants a pocket warmer AMD

I dont like Intel because theres no NVIDIA nForce boards for them, its the only motherboards i like, not only the insane prices for a Intel chip.

As for a Mac, i can only dream about those, way out of my price range, would be nice to have one tho.

I have a P4 2.53ghz...I've clocked it to 2.9ghz

Actually I have never tried AMD...I have heard many good things. I know they do run hotter, I don't know if that decreases the life of the chip but for the price of some of their chips...you really can't beat it.

Of course clocking my P4 decreases the life too

AMD because I get more processing power for my money.

athlon xp2600

athlon thunderbird 1.4ghz

p4 3.0ghz

dual celeron 500

dual celeron 300 oc'd to 450

they all serve their purposes just fine

note: the oc'd celerons have been like that for nearly 4 years...

2 AMD 1700's and a P4 2.0 ghz Celeron. Amd's do help warm a room and they are better for graphics (IMO).

AMD, they're heaps cheaper than Intel chips and the performance difference is invisible unless you're a heavy gamer.

Besides, it allows me to keep the house thermostat turned down during the winter

Hmm... people exagerate a little bit about the heat generated by the AMD cpus

I have an AMD Athlon 1800, never had any prob. Used to have a celeron, but it was way too slow.

AMD.....for me although i have only got a sad little 800 chip

but hey my machine just rocks along

When warranty runs out in a couple of months i am going to upgrade mobo and chip to a nice little Asus with an XP2400 chip

Celerons are so slow that a 500Mhz AMD -2 processor beats a 500Mhz Celeron. I have used an -2 computer and a Celeron computer and I found the -2 computer to be much more responsive when compared to the sluggish Celeron computer.

I'm a heavy gamer and I currently use AMD. 3D (a la: Q3, Unreal II, UT2003, Generals, etc.) Game performance largely depends more on your video card than the processor within reason. If you want to go by benchmarks, my OC'd Athlon with eat any stock P4 for lunch.

Each processor has it's strengths and weaknesses. In my house, only my son's system and mine are AMD. All the other systems are Intel. I don't have any personal experience with the G* line of procs...mainly because they don't run anything I'm interested in...

I have used AMD chips now for many years, I would only go for AMD chips.

Last time, I switched from AMD to a P4. Didn't need another AMD as I already have central heating, and the noise from those cooling fans - ah, peace and quiet at last...

Instead of AMD I am going to try a p4 for my next computer... one of the 2 ghz models since they are coming down in price. A 2.3 celeron wouldn't be bad either I guess....

"you can't knock it till you tried it"

Worst comes to worse I can always sell it on ebay...

Bro...You can pick up the P4 1.8a chip for a steal and clock it to as much or beyond 2.4ghz without a hitch. I think it's one of those once in awhile speacial ones...It's fast.
