hey you all!
what do you think of the following computer and do you think I should pick it up?
I have XP on disk and a CD RW waiting here. My computer is so slow now (500 mhz) and I think it might be worth it.
Your thoughts please!

that's quite a deal. But I'd be concerned that it only has 128 meg of RAM. I'm running Windows XP with 256 meg of RAM and I'd like to move up to 512 meg. Most computers that come bundled with WindowsXP ususally are 256 or 512 meg RAM machines

I thought XP needed a minimum of 256Mb, but I could be wrong. Might be worth checking it out with them and pushing your luck to get another 128Mb thrown in for free.

It isn't running XP it is running linux. On a different note I have a stick of 128 laying around the house somewhere.

Must be 128 DDR min. for XP. Thats what my machine had when I bought it, but it had 512 before I left the store.

I have played with this system at Frys electronics..This computer can not handle any upgrade whatsoever..To increase your ram is damn near impossible..the mother board will only support 512Megs Dimm 168pin 133Mhz ram..also The proccesor is strictley for net cruising and Email..That is all this is capable of...It takes an Entire Admin team to load XP on it also..If your current 500Mhz System is a Celoron or an AMDK6 you are better off just getting a new harddrive and More ram for what you have now...Unless you are doing Serious Graphic Rendering..Your processor will be fine for Almost everything you would normally do..You just need to decide what you plan on doing with it..The Emachines Model with a 2.2gig celoron proccesor and 512DDR w/a DVD drive andm a CDrw drive is only $499 also at frys and is seriously upgradeable....

Why not build one? Find a store that sells barebones system, get the additional parts you need, and you'll get more computer for the same or maybe less money.

Oh yeah..I had the old 466Mhz eMachine Celoron I maxed the Ram on it, used a TCP optimizer and Boy with DSL it screamed on the net...You really shoud put your dollars down on that machine..Remember itsnot the computers fault that windows runs so crappy...and if all you do is cruise the net, rip a cd or 2 then a good investment is a machine with solid ram and a good Front side Bus Speed of atleast 400Mhz...The proccesor is really only a consideration if you are a gamer or DO alot of 3d rendering...a decent 64 meg video card will do wonders for crappy monitors also..WHich ever is on sale is the best one..if you stick with a good name brand...

Speaking of RAM, my PC originally came with 256 MB DDR RAM and WinXP. I upgraded to 512 MB which made a difference for Windows and did not make a difference for Linux (Linux already ran pretty smooth before the upgrade). This goes to show how memory hungry and processor hunger XP can be.

soyo dragon boards are very pretty. I usually love having a clear transparent side on my pc's so that would be pretty.
