How do I make the Start menu transparent using Skin Studio? or any other programs that can make it?

When you make the image for the start menu, the areas that are going to be transparent have to be colored 255,0,255 (magic pink). than, in skin studio, set the transparency to "enabled" in the section for the part of the start menu you are warking on.

or did you mean you just wanted to reduce the transparency so you can still see the start menu, but can see the wallpaper through it?

It is possible, grayhaze is bringing out his theme SOON and I might heard something about semitransparant...

Skindstudio CAN make it the startmenu semitransparant, just like you can make buttons animated...

y'z shadow http://www.designtechnika.com/yz/ it has some compatability issues running alongside windowsfx though. ya might be able to get past those with changing some settings in both progs.

Skinstudio is for building WB skins. It can't do anything to the start menu.
And as for Aston, Aston is a desktop enhancement/shell, so if it gave you a semi-transparent menu, it was probably a recreated one that was made by Aston.
WindowFx used to be able to do transparent start menus and taskbars, but I believe the recent versions no longer do that.

Sorry to disappoint you Styl skinner, but the start menu isn't actually transparent on my theme. It might have looked that way because of the wallpaper I was using in the screen shot, but apart from rounded corners it's actually solid.

On possible way of creating a start menu with varying levels of transparency would be to use a dithered pattern of magic pink in the image. It won't look as smooth as a TGA file could, if they were supported in that part of a skin, but done carefully and in moderation it could look 'okay'.

Just couldn't use it behind any area that has icons or text. I tried it once and it looked absolutely horrible.

Das this sound like a challenge?
If it isn't possible with skinstudio, is it also not possible with hard code??
