Today was not my unlucky day...

Wednesday, June 4, 2003 by Angel_Wings | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

In fact NO day is just so long as people post here with their heart and their souls and good intentions.

Today, I laughed...and lamented a bit but mostly laughed. The Dell rep. who helped resolve my computer re-order didn't fully explain that I only needed to send back the CPU...OH LAWDY...so I wrapped EVERYTHING up perfect as NEW () and then thought...'wait-a-minute' So I call again...wait a half hour and get a rep to tell me that indeed I only need to send back the CPU with the cords and docs...UGH! Ack! So, now I dunno if I should re-call and ask a manager to speak to me because my neck and back hurts from packing and unpacking those suckers.

AND FYI...the dang CPU is HUGE...I thought that thing was supposed to get SMALLER along with technology? That thing was a GOLIATH!

Forgive my rant...I'm just feeling frustrated after my second Dell (latest PC) was a dud and I had to have them replace my HD THREE (YES THREE) TIMES! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Next time I'm just gonna build my own puter. Scwew it! *sniffle*

BUT...on the bright side...

There are plenty of positive people here to keep my nipper up when I'm feeling down...

Makes life feel not quite so complicated.

-And yes, no need to respond to this...unless you've felt my frustration...I'm just tired of getting stuff out of a box and having to re-pack it. What happened to quality control? Pftt!

, DM

You have gotta be one of the sweetest folk that ever joined here...I totally end up with broken stuff half the time...I've realized it's that saying, "You're only given what you can handle" and I usually (hehe) have a ton of patience with mishaps and people...

Guess it's all part of life...if you let the small stuff bother you then how do you cope with the big stuff right?

You're a real champ, DM! A good example for many by your desire to keep trying and not let things get you down too! Not many folk like that around.

Really though; I made 4 trips one time because of bad Monster optical and video cables for the Xbox.

Finally went with the MS pack and Acoustic Research cables. Monster is a ripoff though and is overpriced.

Dells are monsters I have an old Dell Laptop (and btw the first one was sent back too) cuz the thing would not fire up since it had a bunk Hard Drive anyways this was before the laptops became smaller and smaller this thing is so heavy you need a tow truck to lift it up so I never use it myself but I have it set up on my network so my 6 yo can log onto nick.com and play his little games and stuff...

Oh well, I guess that ruins my idea of buying a Dell instead of another Gateway for my next computer. Gateway was great for me until I had a bad monitor and then they sent me a brand new BAD monitor as a replacement. And, now they say I'm out of warranty and they won't replace my two week old brand new BAD monitor. So, I understand totally how you feel Shmoopy.

*comfort* Shmoopy

should have opened up the case and just sent the chip

on a brighter note the 21" crt I got from ebay actually worked! $61+$50 shipping! We shall see if it works a week from now

Ohhh Shmoopy! That's dell for ya!
Once Dell wen't 'commercial' (really commercial) their quality wasn't the same. (But they still ain't as bad as Hewlett Crappard! ) I understand about the size of your cpu--mine is twice as big as my old one. It's HUGE.

Anyhoo--here's a Dell story for ya. For my husbands birthday in September I decided it was time for him to get a new pc. I order him a Dell (One of those cool small cpu's), I paid extra so it would be here in time. I ordered a pair of Hardon Kardon (however you spell it ) speakers, sweet lookin', new printer. I figured all this would go beautifully with his sleek monitor (One of this barely 2 inch thick ones). That day comes--no cpu--no speakers. I call Dell, and they say; "Yea I know you paid to have it there...but you know it's not guaranteed? Can't help you it's out of our hands! Call the shipping company." Now they give me the wrong shipping company! I'm calling the wrong place with the the wrong tracking number! Call Dell again... this person tells me, Oh no we used this other shipping company. So I call them, now. They tell me I'm the last stop, no delivery until about 6 or 7pm. I'm supposed to leave to meet him at 5! No one will be there! And, I wanted to have everthing set up for him when he got home! Eventually they tell me if the driver is willing to go off route they'll do it.

Driver arrives...with a box of speakers. No CPU! Driver says, that other box isn't with me? Call the main office. Again....call, hold, transfer, beg--plead--complain-...no guarantees, even though I should have had it already. Driver arrives, with cpu. Frantically I hook up monitor, cpu, speakers printer, everything's looking sweet. I power up the cpu--screens black????? I look at cpu no green light? I check everything...all's plugged in? I unhook everything--plug cpu seperately, try again, nothing. I have to leave in an hour. I open the cpu--can I tell you how shoddy they put this together??? Oh good goddess! They didn't have everthing plugged in inside the cpu!!!!! Unplugged cords--BENT adapters. I had to pull one out, straighten each copper prong very carefully myself, so that it COULD be plugged in to begin with! I Plugged it in again--Green light! yeah! I click to open the cd drive, make sure that's fine--the cd drive dissapears inside the cpu??? Big shock--they forgot to put that together right too!!!

Hubby...calls, he's gonna work late-- Akasha gains extra time to get all this fixed! No thanks to DELL!

OOHHH...I'm feelin' you, too! I finally got "lucky" (no, not THAT way) ...one of the 17 year old students at the school where I work is a MAJOR computer whiz...(adult tech. institutes are knocking down his door to 'get' him, and the high school used this kid to fix all of their networks, servers, anything to do with computers). Anyway, he was a student of mine, and offered to build me one with all upgradeable top-of-the-line components. Cheap. And I said 'yes'(dah). To update about my instant rebooting problem on XP to those who helped me here..I downloaded the newest nvidia drivers, and so far so good. I put the 2nd 256 ram card that I thought was bad back in today, and again, so far no weird reboot yet. Again, so far..... We'll see...fingers crossed...

Hey peoples....references to 'cpu' had me lost for a while....until I worked out you were referring to the computer case, not the 'cpu'....which in all its permutations has never been moch bigger than one or two packs of cigarettes...[eg. a Slot1 CPU]...

Shmoopy...I FEEEEEEL your pain!!! I had the out of box experience with my first home theatre style DVD player. It kept freaking out anytime there was a flash of bright light. Called the company support..."Oh we have a fix for that, but it's for the B model and you have the A model". "No we can't refund your money because that model is no longer shipping, we pulled those because of design flaws." On and on, round and round. Went back to the store where I bought it and told them the whole story. The first 'clerk' I spoke to wasn't going to help, his supervisor (of course, the whole story had to be repeated again) wasn't going to help. Finally the manager of the store (after the whole story was repeated) had mercy on me. I got my money back and bought a completely different brand and it worked first time, perfectly, out of the box
