I heard one song, thus far--sounds pretty good. I haven't heard "really bad" Metallica yet
So I can't imagine not liking it.Heard the new Red Hot Chili Peppers cd is pretty good too. I personaly haven't heard anything from it yet. But heard good things so far.

And for the record, most of the Nu-Metal bands these days are pretty much Master of Puppets era Metallica with some rap thrown in... Not saying that I don't like it because I do... But none of it really grabs me.
Is it just me or has the Nu-Metal scene become a parody of itself, and taken the place of the hair-metal scene of yesteryear? Every band now has one dude with dreads, one with a dyed, sleaze-metal straight black hair do, one bald dude, a couple of soul patches, ball chain necklaces, tattoos, and plenty of piercing… That or they’ve taken the KISS route and added some facial paint to the above formula. And they’re all starting to sound as if they’re being produced in the same studio. History repeating itself?
... I dunno, but the new Metallica CD definitely stands apart from the rest of today's metal scene if you ask me, and it's all good.

Bit Machine Head-esque if you ask me.

Finally got it yesterday (was on sale for less than $10) Listened to it twice. I really like track 7 (not sure what the name is since I was listening to it in the car) but by the lyrics of it I would assume that it is called "shoot me again".
It is *not* like old or new Metallica at all. It''s a totally new style, which most of it is because of the new guitar sound of the new guitarist. It had some nice heavy riffs and it is definitely not as craptacular as their last two albums. Doesn''t sound as mainstream, but also doesn''t really sound super heavy, either.
I think I like it, but it''s almost like listening to a new band except the voice is the same (if that makes any sense).
argghh! Too many typos!

the new bass player, robert trujillo, didn't have a hand in this album according to the last page of the cd insert. Bob rock, metallica's producer, did all the bass playing for the album.

well, then it would still be a "new" guitarist, though.
There is definitely different influences on this one than the last two albums.

Still haven't bought the cd--but heard St.Anger a couple of times now--I seem to become less disenchanted each time I hear it.
That's sucks 'cause I'm a huge Metallica fan... I'll have to see after I buy the cd. I dunno know...Reply #18 Monday, June 9, 2003 7:04 PM

There's a repetitive feeling, and the lyrics might not always be there, but it has it moments. The mastering could of been better and I have yet to watch the DVD which I hear sounds a lot better.
The looping certainly brings it down but I love the raw sound.
KarmaGirl, track 7 would be 'Shoot Me Again' and would probably be one of my favorites too. I think this album had a lot more potential but fell off in some areas. All in all I'm still feelin it.
