MS Breaks Edge with latest update(Solved)

Wednesday, September 13, 2017 by BigDogBigFeet | Discussion: Personal Computing

Well I sent feedback to MS today.  Edge is 100% broken on my laptop after the latest update.  All common remedies fail reboots, browser cleaning, and re-setting.  Nothing works.  Edge can no longer even display webpages I use.

Gotta love MS and forced updates.

I told them I'm now forced to use Google Chrome.  I do not like it but I now have no other choice.

Well, now it is 09/14/2017 and Edge is working again.  I did not find any fresh updates pushed since this troublesome one on 09/12/2017.

I did report the issue through the Windows Feedback app (when it happened) and provided a capture to them of the error occurring.

I recommend if you encounter difficulties with Win 10 use the Feedback app.

I got a COMPLETELY black screen except for Advanced system care.... Tried to kick start Explore.exe in Taskmanager...Yeah right.

I had similar problem with frozen black screen as well.  It took several attempts to clear that up also.

Now I have my Laptop running everything normally except Edge.  CCleaner is of no help with it.

Awesome.  Don't use Edge but what version of Win10 is affected (still on 1607/14393.1715 here)?  Out of curiosity.

Thx!

Not sure what the rhyme/reason is with the Creators Update rollout.  Some of our Win10 rigs have been updated, some not & I'm still one of the nots.

Updated three machines with the latest Windows Update last night and Edge is working flawlessly on all rigs

The Black screen issue is an HP Thing apparently, seems to happen to all HP Laptops

Doesn't surprise me, MS broke my soundcard with an unnecessary driver update.  Nothing that I tried to restore it worked, including System Restore, so I decided that a reformat and clean install of Win 10 was necessary to fix that and some other issues I believe were caused by upgrading over Win 8.1.

Not everything went according to plan to begin with, with several frustrating things preventing a clean install from the get go, like the OS not wanting to install on the designated drive, but I eventually figured it out and my rig is running the best it ever has under Win 10.  I still have a few programs to install to get things back to the way I want them, but there's no hurry on that.
