Really New to Skinning

Help....

Sunday, June 4, 2017 by garyT7461 | Discussion: Community

hi all and Everyone.

Im Gary. As a way of trying to fight  mind numbing depression i thought I would try skinning to give my brain something else to process.  I really dont have much idea how to start but bought windowblinds, skin editor etc. etc. in the hope that one of you intelligent people will rush to my aid and get me started.... I think I've nearly got to grips with windowblinds but can't for the life of me, get the skin I activate to change the start button. the ones I've downloaded from WC have there own cool buttons but each time i activate them I just get the rectangular "windows" button.  Any ideas or advice on this or any aspect of skinning would be gratefully received.

                                      Thanks in anticipation...........Gary

Welcome Gary.

You may want to start with the OS you are using.

You would need to be on Windows 10 and using Start 10 to change just the start button Gary. All you can do in Windowblinds on Windows 7 is set it to always use the OS start button instead of the skin start button.

There was a skin tutorial available somewhere one of the members made. Her name is Kitty and it was very helpful to get wet so to speak. I don't know where but I'm hoping someone sees this and guides you to it.

I have been making WB skins for some time now. Click on my name and you will see them. There are to many things to try and tell a person just starting. Best if you can get that tutorial and or just go into SKS (skinstudio) and mess around. After you get a little use to it I would be happy to help with questions. Remember you also need to be able to make many different types of images with a graphic program.

Lets hope someone post a link to that tutorial for you.

You're downloading Windowblinds skins, and instead of seeing the start button showing with the skin you're seeing the default Windows start button, correct?

Open up Windowblinds, click on "Settings" on the left side, in list of options that appear look for "Always use the OS start button rather than the style one" - make sure it's not checked.

Yes that is the one.  good job Hank. Note you don't have to join Dropbox. When the screen comes up just X out of it and download the file.
