Request for comments from skin authors

Tuesday, April 22, 2003 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Now that WindowBlinds 4.0 for XP has been released and appears to be a nice solid base for us to build on, we would like some feedback from skin authors about what you would like to see added to WB 4.

We are aware of a demand for toolwindow skinning in UIS2 and MDI controls in UIS1, but would like to know what other features you would be interested in having in WB.

You can also report any bugs in how WB draws things if you wish (not crashes - post them in our newsgroups, just places where its not producing the results you expect)

If you do not wish to post in public here, then e-mail [email protected] with your suggestions / requests.

All the little symbols that you usually draw for the controls over actual images, draw your actual scrollbars then add seperate image for that actual control logo's over the top for glyph section.

Set Glyph Transparency to Alpha Blend, and set both Horizontal and vertical to Centre so button symbols are perfecly in centre incase spinners or controls such as small images get crammed up.

Am I right in thinking that if skinners started to use glyphs on items such as the start button then 'glyph' (icon) won't get cut off if the user decides to force a thin taskbar?

Yeah it would help as its a seperate image Woodbridge, you could have actual start button image, then add text start for start button glyph im not sure if it would work as TGA but it should if you turned both tranclucecny switches on

Skinstudio will accept .PNG files and autoconvert them to TGA files for you so there is no need for WB to support them.

Would be nice if combo-box borders could be 3 pixels instead of 2... (like the new text-box borders)

Explorer Toolbar background currently stretches vertically across multiple rows of toolbar buttons. Maybe there could be an option to set the image to repeat for each row instead of stretching across them.

a simple request from me - how about being able to change the loading boot screen thingy, so that can match whatever theme we choose our windows to look like/

another suggestion: it would be great if we could change the special menu folders icons (instead of default xp) on shell styles

I've tried this, and skinstudio didn't see any png files in the folder............. I'll try again.

Koasati gets out his broken record...............
up-to-date documentation would be a wonderful thing!

here's a nit-pick but something I'd like to see; the "address" text next to the addressbox on explorer windows uses the same color as the buttons do, this is a pain when doing dark skins with light colored buttons because the text shows up black on black. Any way you could make this color independant? Or maybe put a button behind it? That would be great. Here's a screen so you know what I'm talking about http://www.msu.edu/~conatser/bktxtprb.jpg I also can't find a way to change the text color in the search pane on the left side of the explorer window from black, that might just be I haven't found it yet, though.

Koasati, you need to browse for the file thro import SkinStudio will convert it iirc

Tho it seems quicker after you fixed your PSD to save file as 32bit TGA much quicker. Well sometimes

knatzz some fonts on system are hard coded iirc and cannot be changed this is why dark skins are evil

Yeah, I know dark skins are evil, but the "address" on explorer tollbars is changeable, I could make it blue, but then the button text would be blue as well, if they could get the button image to display behind the "address" text, then one more dark skin problem solved.
