Cyberpunk Green

(work in progress)

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 by codewar65 | Discussion: Skinning

I am currently laying out cursors and icons for a new WindowBlind. The animated cursors are all raytraced in POV-Ray 3.7 and assembled using software I wrote. I am still working on the icons to accompany the skin. A preliminary wallpaper has been created using POV-Ray, data from Wikipedia and Google Maps, and a map texture vectorized in CorelDRAW x6. I am trying to recapture the feel of those hacker films of the mid 90s. UI elements will be raytraced as well when I get to that point.

Hey, Codewar, I'm into Steampunk and Cyberpunk stuff, so this is really great news.  Looking forward to when you release it all.

I'm learned alot so far with my tinkerings with SkinStudio and WB. Hopefully, I can pull off a full theme (icons, cursors, wallpaper, and windowblind). It will take time.

Yeah, for sure.  To do a complete theme will take some time, but it'll be worth it come the end.  The artwork would be the most time consuming, and obviously applying it to the WB, but once you've completed the initial artwork it should hopefully get easier from there.

I'm doing most of the work in 3D right now. Currently programming the models for the icons. I'm not using modelling software, just old school text based descriptive POV-Ray ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POV-Ray ).

Once I'm happy with the work, I will apply it all to WindowBlinds, Icon Packager, Theme Manager, or whatever I need to put it all together with.

It all sounds so interesting and promising.

Shoot, I may even have to take a sedative to contain my anticipation.

Seriously, though, I downloaded a Cyberpunk theme from deviantart a while back and really loved it.  There were also a few icons and other related items, but there wasn't a lot going on at the time, and that's why I'm so very interested in your Cyberpunk work.

For me, Cyberpunk is best represented by the movies Bladerunner, Johny Mnemonic, Matrix; novels by William Gibson; R. Talsorian Games pencil-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020; many elements of Funcom's MMORPG Anarchy Online.

My blind is mostly concentrating on my concept of Cyberspace as depicted in the above works.

Yup, that pretty much covers it.  The theme I downloaded from deviant art was based on The Matrix and had the same or similar green highlighting the whole thing. It's on a drive somewhere with other skins.  I haven't seen it for a while [the Cyberpunk theme, that is], but it shouldn't be too hard to find once I start looking, and perhaps I can do a screenshot when I find it.

Okay, that's good.  Perhaps you could share with Codewar to see if it helps in his quest to create a Cyberpunk suite.

Basically neither one resembles what codewar is trying to do. His best bet is to check out Matrix tutorials. They are close to what he's looking for.
