Thoughts and Prayers Time Again, Folks! UPDATED!
Wiz Needs Our Help!
Wednesday, February 1, 2017 by RedneckDude | Discussion: Community
Guys, I ask again for thoughts and prayers for a friend.
Wiz (Randy) called me tonight to say that he's going into the hospital tomorrow.
He's bloated, jaundiced, and his ankles are swollen, and he's got purple toes.
Possibly liver failure.
Please, please send good vibes, thoughts, and prayers for Wiz!!
EDIT:
It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you guys this sad news.
I just got off the phone with Randy. His biopsy, sent to Johns Hopkins, came back as cancer.
I was able to spend maybe 30 minutes with him Saturday as he passed through here on his way back to Illinois. He was weak, and frail.
Please send prayers and good thoughts his way.

Oh hell no, this isn't the news I wanted to get at this time. Wiz has had a rough enough time of it already, and then this on top of it. It's no darned good, no siree.
Anyway, Wiz all my best hopes and wishes are coming your way. Get well real soon and may your recovery be 100% complete in every way.
Oh yeah, I had similar symptoms way back in the 70's, was a merchant seaman and ended up in hospital in Bougainville when we docked. It turned out to be a form of yellow fever. Bed rest and medication had it sorted in a few of days, so hopefully that's all it takes for you to be back on track.
Be well, man.

Biopsy today to check out the 4 spots on my liver found by a CT scan and they want to see what is in the fluid I've been retaining.
Wish me luck and please keep the prayers coming.

Yeah, mate, always. All the best for your surgery and speedy recovery.
I retained a lot of fluid when I was hospitalised in Bougainville. My crew mates reckoned I was full of piss [which is better than being told I was full of sh!t, I suppose], and they weren't far wrong. I was given a course of diuretics and things wen't back to normal pretty quickly.
The pain from the swelling in my feet and ankles was pretty bad, too. I couldn't bear to put my feet to the ground, but after a few days bed rest and the appropriate meds, I was getting around the decks like nobody's business. Hopefully, your ailments can be resolved as easily.

I sure hope that is the case Mark. They loaded me up with diuretics and antibiotics last night and most of the swelling has gotten much better.

That's some good news. I thought you were pregnant.
Randy, still praying hard here, and I know a bunch of others are too. Get well, man. I need my tester back...

Yeah, that's pretty much what they did with me and the swelling reduced quite a bit after the first course, which sure pleased me because it was rather painful. What didn't help was that we were still two days out of port when it flared up.
The 1st Mate had some basic first aid knowledge and did what he could to make me comfortable, but getting to the hospital was the best thing since sliced bread at the time... and normally I try to avoid hospitals whenever I can. Still, they are the best places to be when you're really ill, and at the time I was quite unwell. I still don't know for sure what I had. They told me it was a form of yellow fever, and I was severely jaundiced, but I was in the tropics and maybe that had something to do with it.
Oh, and the nurse who mainly cared for me was the cutest, most beautiful islander girl I had ever seen. When I was discharged we went swimming daily together at this fantastic beach with hundreds of coconut palms as well as great fishing. Yup, my time in Bougainville [after the time in hospital, that is] was rather enjoyable, with great people and great scenery.
Anyhow, Wiz, you keep getting better and get plenty of rest, okay.
