Are people affraid to leave negative comments? And should the bar be raised?
Sunday, March 23, 2003 by Aaron W. | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I have seen skins which almost appear to be farces. As if to step as close the line as possible before the Wincustomize skin-approving dudes just have to say "there's no way in heck this can be added to the WB skin library..."
So what is it? Are people afraid to tell these authors that they need to practice more, and ask them NOT to post every piece of work they create in the process?
I just find it strange that the skins aren't compared against the same standards as the wallpapers. I've had a few wallpapers rejected before, and I believed them to be far less unattractive than many of the skins which made it through the overly-porous sifter.
So does anyone agree that the bar should be raised for WB skins?

That only goes for those incomplete skins though. One of the ones I pointed out (the trippy rainbow one) was well skinned, but I just didn't like the colours. Nothing wrong with posting those because lots of people love those skins.

Either that, or your departure can be assisted.

I say to these people put in the time to make a skin and see how you feel when you get a negative meaningless comment on it.

"But for the life of me I can not figure out why it is that people feel so oppressed and still want to login?"
i think alot of us hate authority so we love to see how far we can push it. Myself, I like nothing more than watching others push it and get exiled. If you read my previous post in this thread here is a good example of if you do not have the same opinion or attitude of the admins your screwed:
"spikehare11 change your attitude or go elsewhere.
Either that, or your departure can be assisted."
Not that it all bothers me but it seems like a dictatorship site. I only have problems with a few people and I have choosen to shut up about the problems.
No offense meant in this post to ANYONE. It is just a opinion of mine.

To paraphrase, perhaps you now see a motive for requesting an attitude change.
The admins are charged with the duty of maintaining equilibrium amongst a diverse group of people, a potentially huge group, and none of us wants to see decorum swept out the door in the name of free, anarchic interaction as is endemic on many other sites.
Skinners provide their works here freely for display and download and use.
They do NOT need, nor deserve asinine commentary from the peanut gallery.
If someone doesn't like [some of] the skins, ignore them and be grateful for the others, or just plain GO ELSEWHERE.
Simple, really...

You are quite correct....differ or deviate from that and you WILL be screwed...

Reply #111 Wednesday, March 26, 2003 7:52 AM
If that doesn't strike you as wrong, then both your attitudes need adjusting...
I've been voicing my opinion in this thread for 5 pages now, and despite the mods' disagreeing with me, I still haven't be threatened with a ban. Why? Because I do it politely and I back up my opinion as best I can.

The admins do not tell you what to think.
They just request standards by which you 'must' behave if you wish to remain/be a valued member of this site and its community....

Hey Jafo I caught a spelling mistake of YOURS: you misspelled my name. It's Kona0197 not 0195. i named myself after a bicycle company and old phone number.

Again, 'retaliation', or the threat of, is not something being held over you...unless you overstep the mark. Anyone found doing a 'Scott Sproat' will be quite joyfully ejected [exiled]. No problemo.
But he was hideously vile, and childish with it, as anyone targetted by him will attest.
Sometimes people get 'carried away' with the heat of the moment...a subtle reminder usually suffices.
Some may tend to make a career out of stretching the bounds...and get knuckles rapped. A few spit the proverbial and are marched out of town with their feet hardly touching the ground, quick-smart.
All in all, the site and its community benefits.
It's one little reason why so many DO like it here...
